Hi, please help.
I posted a parcel to HMP brixton on 02/04/16, it shows on tracking that the parcel was signed for and delivered on 5/4/16 at 09.56 however the parcel was rejected by the staff 2 minutes later and returned to Brixton PDO. I have contacted brixton PDO and they checked on the sytem and informed me that my parcel was definately sent on to the national returns centre on 11/4/16 as I forgot to put a return address on the packaging.
Can anyone tell me how long it approximately takes for the parcel to reach the returns centre and be scanned into their system and sent back to me. The items are not restricted or dangerous, it's only clothes. I've already put in a claim form, there hasn't been any update on royal mail track and trace since 11/04/16. Parcel ref is : KP657922927GB

It can take a couple of months to get a parcel back to you. When it gets to the front of the queue, the posties will look inside for contact details for you: they can only return it if they have these details. If you even suspect that there isn't anything with your name & address on it inside the parcel then complete a P58inland form ASAP and send it to Royal Mail, this will ensure that RM can match your parcel with you. I guess the key thing will be that you include the barcode number on the claim form.
There has been a problem with sending large parcels to prisons for a couple of years, with at least some prisons operating an unofficial policy of refusing all larger items. I know that Brixton was one of the refusers. Questions were asked in Parliament about this about a year ago (with specific reference to sending books) but nothing has changed. This might be a subject to take up with your MP. In the meantime, the there should be a Prison Visitors Association for Brixton prison, they usually produce a leaflet with useful advice about what can & can't be sent, how to address a postal order etc.

I guess it's just a waiting game then. I will submit another P58 inland form like you suggested just to be sure. When the parcel is scanned into the returns centre is this information updated on track and trace? or will i need to keep phoning customer service regularly to enquire? Thanks for your help, you have given me some sort of hope.

If you have already submitted a P58 for that parcel then there is no need to repeat the task. Not sure about the scanning question though: over to somebody else...

Twitter and the call centre are the only options when contacting Royal Mail. The national return centre does not have a customer direct phone number.joanna351974 wrote:I need contact with National Return Centre. I send item of 6 February 1 class royal mail standard and buyer don't receive the item.

Yesterday I collected a parcel from my local Royal Mail Delivery Office (DO). Allegedly RM attempted to deliver it on the 05th February but they did not leave a red card for it. The friend who sent the parcel alerted me to this, so I went to the DO on spec, with ID, and retrieved the parcel.
The lesson from this is that there is a good chance that the parcel is still at the recipient’s DO. If it isn’t collected, or the address isn’t recognised etc, then RM will return it to the address you put on the back of the package. Only if all the above have failed, or if you sent something that is not allowed in the post, will the package go to the National Returns Centre.
