Help please: Special Delivery 1pm - Progressing through network...

Post by Joemalone »

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help to shed some light on this situation:

1. Item posted to me via Special Delivery 1pm on Saturday and the tracking number forwarded to me. As the item is high value I phoned the post office where the parcel was posted, spoke to post master who confirmed the item had been received at 09:45 and picked up by the collection driver shortly after 12 lunchtime on the 16/4/16. All looked good so far.

2. I have been checking the tracking number online and it simply states that the item is progressing through the network. When I click on full tracking details for the status it simply says 'sent at post office'.

3. I waited until 13:00 today and the parcel didn't arrive. I called the customer service line at 15:00 and was told that there are no further details on the parcel and it may not have been collected at the post office on Saturday. I phoned the post office again, spoke to the post master who confirmed again that it was collected by RM and he has a signature for collection. He remembers the parcel as it was the only SD and it was placed into a separate bag. I relay this to the customer service agent who tells me that I need to wait 5-days and claim for a lost parcel!

I would really welcome some advice or information as I'm not sure how a SD could get lost as I thought the items were tracked on their journey. Is it possible that this parcel is making its way via the network but hasn't been scanned properly? Could it genuinely be lost?

The item was posted from Guildford and is coming to Bristol. The SD tracking number is: AD683326874GB

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Special Delivery 1pm - Progressing through network...

My first thought was that progress had been interrupted because the contents were classed as dangerous goods and the item hadn't been packed properly (e.g. mobile phone, laptop, perfume, whiskey). But I would expect one or two more scans if that was the case.

There have been problems with the tracking not working end to end but that doesn't explain the item failing to arrive.

So I'm at a loss. As a minimum, the sender can reclaim the postage cost, even if the item turns up safe and sound tomorrow. From your point of view, if this is something you bought on the internet, you should now be starting the claim process with the seller.

Thank you for replying.

The item was a watch (automatic and no battery) and I have been told by the sender that it was well packaged and boxed. I've also checked the address details and they all look fine. I purchased via eBay so have protection from Paypal but I cannot claim until the 24/4 and hopefully the item will show up before then. It is very strange though and I've purchased (and sent) a lot of items using SD and never had a problem.

Interestingly I found this on the service update section of the RM website:
The late arrival of a vehicle in to Jubilee Mail Centre on Friday night meant that not all inbound mail could be processed to schedule. As a result of this some mail posted in other parts of the UK for delivery in the GU, KT, SW and TW postcode areas may arrive later than expected.
Although this infers that post for delivery in those areas was affected rather than the other way around. The item was posted at GU28 9HL. Perhaps it is just a coincidence?

tracking details are now showing it's progress through the network and show as should be delivered tomorrow, looking at the tracking details it actually looks like it didn't leave the post office until today, (not saying it did just thats the way it looks) on the senders reciept it will show as either before or after last collectiob, if it says before on the reciept then the sender will be able to make a claim for delay of the item
