Thank you, just so I can understand what would be the reason one package is still listed as there and another that came a week later passes through within hours?

items are not processed in the order that they are received, ie they may select 1 entire shipment or plane and take a week to check all its contents but check no contents of the next plane

Here is a success story for you

My parcel was posted in a village outside Warsaw (Poland) on 23 Mar 2016 using their "GLOBAL Expres" service.

It arrived at Heathrow Worldwide DC on 30 Mar 2016 (this was over the Easter weekend, and during heightened security, so not too bad)

Processed and on its way to the delivery office 09:30 31 Mar 2016 !!!!!!!

Arrived on my doorstep in the afternoon of 1 April 2016 (No this is not an April fools joke)

Well done everyone

We ARE NOT an OFFICIAL Site - do you have any questions we can help with.

Please note it arrived at langley (according to tracking) on the night of 12th April - so if the tracking is accurate it's only been in customs 2 full days. Unfortunately, neither Royal Mail or this site can hurry up customs. They work at their own pace and within their own rules.

Yes I do have some questions, the parcel contained an envelope with a Passport and application forms. How long on average does customs need to check something like that, given it is been there since the 12th now and most likely to be there till the 18th! Before I am likely to see movement.

Is there any recourse I can have if they loose my passport?
Will they pay for the replacement?
… another Post Office counter payment which is not cheap these days!

I paid 300 Norwegian kroner for this to be delivered, which is about 25 pounds.
If this is the case with this service I will certainly not use it again and advice people not to.

As I have done similar sending in my passport with Fedex and DHL from Asia to Europe where the service took 10 days very max.

There is no average based on what is inside, customs check what they want and there is no set process as to what and how long it should take.

It depends on what the terms of reference say for this service at Posten (norway). You'd have to check with them. They would make a counter claim against Royal Mail or Customs as appropriate.

Again the problem is with Posten and UK Customs, whether you recommend Posten or Royal Mail again we shouldn't pass comment on because we are not an official representative of either organisation.

Some of the private express mail services exclude passports from their international mail services. For instance, if you look through the small print in the link below you will see that FedEx refuse to carry passports if sent from the UK end, it may well be the same in Norway:

http://www.fedex.com/in/domestic/servic ... tions.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There is no compensation for lost or late items, but it probably isn't lost anyway, just held up at customs.

Have the same problem with my item, it is stuck for almost 4 days. RM tracking giving me the 'Heathrow Worldwide DC' information. Was posted from Germany so there are no customs checks as it was posted within the EU. Wonder what the problem is. Only needs to go to Southampton.

Parcels from Spain or Italy arrived pretty quickly as there are no customs checks as well.

I am sorry but the belief that there are no customs check for items within the EU is a widely held fallacy caused by a misunderstanding of the regulations. There are no tax or duty implications, but Borders and Customs still need to do checks on the legality and security of items crossing borders, and when the security levels are high, the time taken for checks to happen is increased.

Also, it is a case of pot luck, most items will get through with only cursory checks, but every so often they will have a purge or clamp down on particular items, source countries or even just a particular load. That seems to be when the delays happen. Unfortunately, there is nothing Royal Mail can do about it.

Regrettably we cannot give definite answers as we are an unofficial site.

However experience has taught us that long delays like this are usually caused by delays in customs over which even the official Royal Mail can't assist with.

I am afraid its a case of being patient, or contacting Royal Mail in a more official capacity - twitter is usually a good way @RoyalMail.

Mail stuck at Heathrow

Post by f12345 »

Hello, my item from Lithuania (RN253549789LT) has been stuck at Heathrow for a week now, the current tracking status on Royal Mail is 'ARRIVED IN THE UK HEATHROW WORLDWIDE DC', and on Lietuvos Pastas 'The item arrived at the office of exchange of the destination country GBLALA'.

I've contacted Royal Mail customer services and they say it should have been in my hands by now, but cannot do anything due to it being international mail. Can anyone provide me some insight as to what is going on here?
