Ask him when time is going to be allocated to deliver to neighbour. After all it's only been going for over 2yrs now , or is it 3.daveyeff wrote:he is at our office this Friday after we finish our duties. does anyone want me to ask him anything regarding this post and the 6 hour deliveries?
thats not what i asked. My question was ask bob what kind of membership the cwu will have after this, my guess is 50% less! and thats in the 1st month!A2B wrote:Allow!halfull wrote: yes ask him what kind of membership he thinks the cwu will have if they allow 6 hour deliveries & a 5-6pm finish timethe CWU can and no doubt will oppose any move to a late finish but if Royal Mail truly want it they will get it, they will just offer enough incentives till the workforce accept
what a shock membership is down 20%! Does he and the other bigwigs understand why? because they have totally left people in deliveries to rot!daveyeff wrote:well he was there for about 2 hrs today. pleasant enough bloke. down to earth etc. went on for a while about the indoor workload constantly reducing. and RMs plans and strategy and the unions take on it. I asked your question 'halfull' by the way. he said the 6 hr delivery is what royal mail want, NOT the union. and this in his opinion will not come in. its been brought up in ideas but that's all. so we would get a vote if it ever came to that, and it wouldn't be voted in. he reckons membership is down by about 20% over the last few yrs and they don't want any more losses. he said if it came to a strike vote though, the 20% who have dropped out would probably follow with the rest of the membership. I asked about the one wave. he said the trial in Exeter is an XMS machine which is capable of sequencing letters and flats together. RM class it as the 'holy grail'. which will lead to them trying to do away with frames and IPS. this is why they are looking for ways to combat their strategy. the obvious is a shorter working week. nothing has been agreed and wont be until it is discussed and put forward to members. asked about our up coming pay deal, he said he hasn't got any idea what we will be seeking, but he says talks are starting on Tuesday. RMs plans are over the next 5 yrs. long road ahead with lots to do.

Not seen Bob Gibson or any union bods in our area but plenty of planers running around the office are they doing a pre-emptive strike of sorts by pulling the rug from under the CWU and it's members and non members? It is time the union woke up before the members leave and they have no union just having London as a last redoubt cannot and will not save it from the same fate as the rest of the country!daveyeff wrote:well he was there for about 2 hrs today. pleasant enough bloke. down to earth etc. went on for a while about the indoor workload constantly reducing. and RMs plans and strategy and the unions take on it. Are you deluded ?daveyeff wrote:yes, ive done that quite a few times lately. our delivery spans are set at 4.45 and we regularly go over by a couple of hours or more, especially when then packets are bad. the thing to remember here though is, the actual lenghth of your span as it is NOW. as I said ours is 4.45 and we are going up to 7 hrs sometimes. so if the spans are set at 6 hours. then it is a reality you could be doing 8 hr/ 8hrs 30 spans.
You're a hero deadbox. Management must love you. I just hope you got paid plenty of o/t for your pains.deadbox wrote:DAVEYEFF " he said the 6 hr delivery is what royal mail want, NOT the union. and this in his opinion will not come in. its been brought up in ideas but that's all"
I set out on delivery and crossed the office gates at 0844 this morning and clocked off at 1555...I make that a 7+ hour delivery span (inc. 50min extended del. without a meal break )
it's already happening
bring in 3 x 10 hr shifts and 1 x 9 hr.Spy wrote:Are you deluded ?daveyeff wrote:yes, ive done that quite a few times lately. our delivery spans are set at 4.45 and we regularly go over by a couple of hours or more, especially when then packets are bad. the thing to remember here though is, the actual lenghth of your span as it is NOW. as I said ours is 4.45 and we are going up to 7 hrs sometimes. so if the spans are set at 6 hours. then it is a reality you could be doing 8 hr/ 8hrs 30 spans.
How are management going to make me or anyone else work in excess of 8 hour days ?
Reality ?? Ridiculous !!
Sounds similar to us, spans are supposedly now ~4hrs30mins by "palnners," but in reality they are only close to that around model week (where we still struggle to finish on time, not cutting the job up). But for most of the year, the delivery span is in reality ~5hrs15mins to ~5hrs30mins. The walk sizes are too big to take account of the increasing parcels and they are certainly too big to take account of Delivery To Neighbour, where my watch keeps ticking, rather than time freezing.daveyeff wrote:yes, ive done that quite a few times lately. our delivery spans are set at 4.45 and we regularly go over by a couple of hours or more, especially when then packets are bad. the thing to remember here though is, the actual lenghth of your span as it is NOW. as I said ours is 4.45 and we are going up to 7 hrs sometimes. so if the spans are set at 6 hours. then it is a reality you could be doing 8 hr/ 8hrs 30 spans.
