Royal Mail Track & Trace anomaly!?

Hi!

I have a packet posted through RM with reference RUxxxxxxxxxGB so I can track it down.

RM Track&Trace reported the following:

YOUR ITEM HAS REACHED THE DESTINATION COUNTRY
Your item, posted on 15/11/12 with reference RUxxxxxxxxxGB has been passed to the overseas postal service for delivery in HUNGARY.

Since I haven't received the packet yet I made some enquiries about delivery in Hungary and figured out that it would be delivered by GLS. So I called GLS custom service to trace my packet down. The answer is the following:

Could anyone explain the reason my packet landed in Germany instead of Hungary? Is that the normal way of delivery procedure or it's just a fatal mistake? What is the reason RM reports my item as if it had reached destination country while it still seems to be in Germany?

Well after looking at the 2 sites for GLS Hungary and GLS Germany I think and suggest that Hungary does not have a Hub, probably just distribution centres, then its gone to Germany with other consignments and will be sorted to a Hungarian Centre to be passed on to a local office for delivery.

Thanks for response which seems to be quite logical, but some details are still unclear.

What is the reason that RM track&trace service reports my item as delivered to destination country?

Anyway If someone has information about sorting time at international Hub in Germany or any contact to make enquires about the status of my item, Please drop me an answer.

Hi I am having problems with track and trace delivery service (if youcan call it a service), After leaving Britain for Canada 6 years ago I now live in the Algarve Portugal so I deal with the CTT or Portuguese PO. They are great the mail is always on time never goes missing and when track and trace from the UK arrives in Portugal they track it to our doorstep.
What another story in the UK nowadays, in the last couple of weeks I have sent packages all over the world, due to clearing out some of my belongings before Christmas arrives.
Some I sent untracked and others (including a valuable watch of mine that I have sent to the watch maker in the uk for a service) were sent tracked.
Imagine my shock when I am recieving feedback on ebay for untracked items arriving before tracked items and feedback for tracked items arriving when on the tracking service online days later it still shows them in Langley HWDC.
What kind of a thing is happening? I have paid for a service that at the bare minimum decrees that once the item is finally delivered it is at least updated on the computer system to show it has arrived safely.
My watch is still missing and other items sent 2 or 3 days earlier have arrived. Many of my items sent track and trace have arrived at their destinations but no attempt has been made to update the fact on the Tracking system, What is the point of anyone paying for this service when it is not being consistantly given? It is a disgrace, the only worse postal system I have found on my travels is the one in Canada where I lived for a few years before moving to the Algarve to live.

......and Guess who was in charge of Canada Post then ----------- and yes you have guessed it she is in charge of Royal Mail now.

BTW thanks for the post but not sure what advice you are looking for, after all we are independent site for RM staff, that provides a Customers section for GENERAL advice rather on than specific matters, you'd need to go through Royal Mails system to sort anything officially.

I just needed to get it out of my system because firstly I cannot get to speak to a human being in the UK about the problem and I cannot send an email as the online form is geared to refuse foreign Teleephone numbers( and you must provide a phone number to send a complaint) it really irks me when things like this happen, especially to me.Just to elaborate on the Canada post problems , When items where being tracked they used to say on the online tracking that they had tried to deliver (when) they hadnt as we were in waiting and they used to try this 3 times then you have to go to the PO to pick it up. We lived in a rural area in Alberta and I was always on their case, it seems the UK is going this way and god help those living in rural areas in the near future.
Hopefully my watch will turn up soon where it is supposed to be (at the watchmakers for a clean) Can you give me some advice on how I can safely get a parcel from Portugal to the UK without having to bring it myself lol.

Interesting. GLS IS Royal Mail. so why when clients pay for tracking does the tracking ' end ' in UK ?
GLS is owned by RM and is part of Parcelforce international. This is actually Royal Mail charging for services it does not deliver. ( excuse the pun )

There are many questions that Royal Mail - GLS need to start answering regarding its business especially the terrible record of GLS in Europe.

Could you post some examples please? Because, as far as I can see, the tracking is more reliable in countries where GLS is the local partner, such as Germany.
