If your rep is too weak to communicate the concerns of the workforce with management, then he shouldn't be a rep as that is a reps main purpose. To aid the workforce & act as a bridge of communication between management & employee.

Working from 9-5 is more realistic a change that will no doubt eventually come. Royal Mail don't want any packets/bulk returning to office & if the times were shifted to in theory match when customers are more likely to be home, I'm sure they've one of their crack team of investigators running figures & gathering data on when people are most likely to be home. :chuckle

my partner said they were both in 45 mins early, i did comment on that he'd also said he started 20 mins early, but only to prep d2d :arrrghhh
i said to him if you didn't do this we'd not have time to do the lapsed bit but still doesn't see that its working for free, and i get an extra 15/20 minutes walking!

honestly some people are so set in their ways and cannot change no matter what's thrown at them
And even with taking lapsing are you finishing early? and are you sure he isn't being paid any OT to come in early?

no, we are usually to time, well maybe 5 minutes either side, definitely no overtime booked
our lapsed part is 2 streets average of 5 & 10 to do both, add the free prep he did and it wouldn't have gone with us yesterday, he knows this but still does it some days along with several others,
how many more per office are giving away say 1hr a week at around £500 per year :hmmmm

No clue why anyone would go in early to work unless they were getting something out of the deal be it finishing slightly earlier than their listed finish time as a result of being prepped and out the door quicker or actually getting paid for it.

I've no issue with people who go in early to finish earlier, in fact I think it seems common place, particularly on Saturday's that the majority do this, everybody seems to be finished earlier on Saturday's despite it being a reasonably heavy day most weeks. Whether they're skipping their meal relief or coming in 15-20 minutes early to try and get away quicker & home in time for football. But if you're actually going in early & not finishing any earlier or getting paid for it, you're pretty much just screwing yourself & it will eventually catch up to you.

Surely if your old partner was on 34 hrs and your new partner is on 25, you now have 9 extra hrs work per week? No wonder your pissed off. All I would suggest is work to your contracted hours, doing whatever Royal Mail work they ask.... BUT when your times up finish! (Obviously remembering the over running procedure) You can't be expect to make up your old partner's 9 hrs work!

To Sarcastixx

Welcome to the witty banter of Royal mail chat! :cool I notice it's only a early post for you...please don't be discouraged by the robust style of conversation. I'd have expected you to have a thicker skin, taking the piss out each other in the NAAFI. :Very Happy

I think most of your points have been dealt with by other members. You often find Posties don't visit us until they start having problems with the job. Only Human nature. It's often difficult the grasp the tone of a post, or the intentions of the poster, simply by the written word (bit like texting). Hence normally a bit of "written" fencing. We try not to be too offensive, so don't be too upset by the replies to your post.

Although no one knows about your time with RM, or your contract, or experiences (and that's a good thing with some Trolls on here) our main mantras basically consist of "Do the job properly" and "Don't work for Free"!

Hope to hear from you soon. :thumbup

Have heard from another postie that I deliver to who works at the next nearest DO to ours - they have people coming in up to 2 hours early  and most of them never claim overtime even though they are going over everyday due to DOUBLE lapsing.

Apparently anyone they hire leaves within their first week, which is unsurprising.

Nothing surprises me in Royal Mail Jpro  Do you think they have they ever considered how much time they're giving to Royal Mail (and there Manager's Bonus) every week?

I think Royal mail relies on an ever changing staff of inexperienced posties, who are unaware of how the system should work, and then they can Bullshit them into working for nothing! :no no

By the time they realise it's too late. I'm not surprised nobody stays at that office.

i used to before p&l and job and done was the norm, still did the same hours,
but its a lottery if you may get sent back out, there's nearly always mail left in now, if you do happen to be getting done early just slow the last loops down and aim to get back 15/20 early then its too late.

Already explained that. That aint my view. See it as you will. I'm past caring about explaining myself to pussies who just want to cry about why they have "rights" instead of focussing on the work at hand. Never been amongst a bigger bunch of little cry babies who turn on their colleagues instead of seeing that the problems are actually caused by things much bigger and out of their control.
Pathetic.
Sadly ; you are pathetic.

How about you understand that some people would like to work to time. They are not 'pussies'

If RoyalMail move my finish time on a Saturday any later than the 2o'clock it is now,I won't get to any matches unless I can buy a TARDIS on Ebay!!
We've had a 3 o'clock Saturday finish in my DO for several years since park and loop came in. There are a number of us who have missed plenty of games in this time, including some who had attended every home game for decades before this came in.

One thing you mention though - "Its not hard". Spot on. This job is not a science or art form, in fact it is the most overpaid job for an unskilled workforce. Can't for the life of me work out why there are so many primadonnas on the same pay grade who think they can tell others what is best for them, because they have "rights".
-Not Hard! Are you serious!! Obviously you dont have to walk for 4-5hrs per day.
Overpaid job for unskilled workforce?!!
Are you serious?
I suppose you think we should be paid minimum wage as were all sooo unskilled and stupid.
How disgraceful are your comments, just because we dont have a PHD does not mean that we are ignorant unskilled serfs, we work hard and deserve a decent wage, and that goes for ALL the other so called unskilled workers out there.
Nuff said.

I can see where he's coming from on some points (Sarcastix) but I don't like the term 'pussies' for those who work to time.
I actually find it more 'pussy' - like to give in and do lapsing on OT against your wishes or come in early without protest than stand up for yourself and have the argument each day about working your time. In fact in my office I'd say the ones who cut-off or refuse lapsing aren't the pussies'.
