Extra D2Ds to be delivered in just 2 days and still be able to finish on time = impossible
Even though we get paid for delivering D2Ds - you are not technically supposed to claim overtime on D2D items. So are managers expecting us to work over our time delivering these just because we get a standard D2D payment of 25 quid???
Safest way guys and gals, is to work to your time all week and let other staff who like the overtime to go out and deliver a few loops of your delivery on the days when these surplus D2Ds hit.... I wouldn't listen to any manager who says that they will pay you for going over your time as they will say anything just to get you out of the door with them.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

they came in ours on Saturday...they ARE tv guides. half of the office has them. the other half doesn't. my duty doesn't have them and on top of that theres no d2ds on the duty either
.....can't see why they need to be sent out Thursday and Friday though.

If they're TV guides then I suppose they are to start Saturday and possibly the customer insisted they were delivered as close to Saturday as possible. Of course it would have made more sense to just include it as a normal door to door.daveyeff wrote:they came in ours on Saturday...they ARE tv guides. half of the office has them. the other half doesn't. my duty doesn't have them and on top of that theres no d2ds on the duty either.....can't see why they need to be sent out Thursday and Friday though.

Nah don't think it's the Sun TV guides, these special d2d's for Thurs/Fri are supposed to be 30g and these Sun things are nowhere near it.

Apparently it's all been agreed. So, cheers for that, Union.

For getting us more work?
You have to be flexible these days as a workforce. This is 2015.
If you don't wanna do the extra work grow some balls and tell your manager you ain't doing OT.

Some need to get real. Royal Mail are a privatised industry with massive competition and a massive wage bill do you really thing when News International comes calling with 5 million items they are going to say no and do you really thing the union has a veto on new work ?
The reality is you get paid wages from the revenue which Royal Mail receive , there is massive competition in the parcel stream , DSA means Royal Mail have lost in the last 10 years 58% of the most profitable part of mails market and left with the most costly part the final delivery. Bespoke D2D is a market which could grow.
The reality is look at the steel workers who lost their jobs today they would not be arguing what work they did if they could keep the steel works open.
The CWU are then consulted once Royal Mail have won the contract and the CWU then put in safeguards like no one is forced to work beyond their time etc.
Remember you are given a contract for a set of hours and overtime is voluntary. No one is forced to work beyond their hours and if they are then there are nationally agreed procedures in place to stop this.
It is really laughable that in the environment this business is in and that a new pay round is due for negotiations that we can somehow think we can reject work ? Or that the CWU have gone and bid for the work !
Comments like thank the CWU clearly are from individuals who believe a union can veto new work when has that ever been the case ? We can demand a price or safeguards but vetoing new work has never been a trade union role.

There is a few regular people which hand mail back in our office but when yours truly tells the manager that i want to complete on my time . The response is that there is nobody to do it now and then this is followed by the maager going in a big strop.

Streaming isn't allowed, all mail apart from d2d arrives at the inward MC the day before it's due for delivery and is due for delivery the day it arrives in. Some DOs have local agreements where they don't take out mailsort on a Saturday, which the DOMs probably love as it gives them scope to have lapsing on a SaturdayKings Norton wrote:We have been told to pull out 2nd class and mail sort if the workload is to much, lapsing is cancelled Thursday and Friday mailsort and 2nd class HAS to go out Saturday..
