Hello everyone.
A package was sent "special delivery guaranteed by 1.00pm" next day.
This was sent yesterday 19/08/15 and the tracking info is:
15.44 post office Thirsk in Yorkshire
20.24 item collected by Leeds Mail Centre
20.54 on its way to Medway Mail Centre- (track point Leeds Mail Centre)
All these messages are for YESTERDAY 19th August 2015.
There has been silence since, and the customer call centre can only apologise for the failure of the service, but offer no explanation as to what has happened.
HELP
I am stranded in Kent, and without the contents of this package, cannot get back home.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on, or who I could contact to find out.
I am close to panic.
Thank you

SD failure is corrected at SD speeds therefore next day is most likely.howtofindpackage wrote:Hello everyone.

The lack of an arrival scan at Medway is indicative of most likely one thing;
- The bag it was placed in was likely miss-sorted to another Mail Centre who themselves did not follow procedure and open the bag and check off each item. Had it arrived and been opened there would either be an "Arrived at <X> MC" followed by "Item Missorted" or similar, and a "Shift Handover" or two and then another "Despatched to Medway MC" or instead of all those a "Missing DUN" scan. Had the bag been opened and the item missed it'd still show up when the DUN was scanned so the bag has not been opened.
There'll be anything up to 34 (officially) other items affected minimum. If the lack of the posted item has the chance of financial consequences (check out the T&Cs, additional accommodation/transport costs should be covered but I'm not 100% sure) it is a good idea to when posting request Consequential Loss cover too. At the minimum make sure the sender to gets the postage refunded, there really is no excuse for this sort of thing - although it does happen of course, human error etc.
99.9% it'll be delivered tomorrow. The next scan should happen before 5am tomorrow which will tell you a lot more about where it has got to. The postie who delivers it won't have a clue about any previous scans and failures so go easy on them.

It's impossible for us to say what has happened without knowing more facts, but it's clear that for some unknown reason your item wasn't delivered in the time it was supposed to. In my experience, the only reason a special would fail is because of one of 2 usual reasons; either the item was badly addressed or it was accidentally sent to the wrong area of the country with no way of getting it to the correct destination by the time that the mistake was realised.
If it was badly addressed (for example incomplete address or illegible label) it would usually be sent to the nearest delivery office, or maybe the 'best guess', and may take some time to deliver, and maybe never could be. If it was accidentally sent to the wrong area of the country (i.e. Cottonholme in Surrey instead of Cottenholme in Yorkshire) then it would almost certainly be delivered only one day late.
