Can I get my mail from RM direct if it can't be delivered?

Post by regency_man »

Hi,

I live in a small block of 3 flats with separate mailboxes on each door, we're all full-time employed so none of the 3 flats is regularly occupied during the day. There is a trades button on the lobby door to allow the postman in "between 8 am and noon" according to the building owners, but of course I doubt that ever gets updated for daylight savings etc. The system is incredibly unreliable however, and it seems the clock in it frequently gets reset (possibly no back-up battery for power cuts or something similar). The first we tend to notice is when we stop receiving post, or by chance someone is in during the day and a different tradesman (usually Amazon logistics people) can't get in and rings all the doorbells in desperation. The postie never seems to try this though (is that a policy?).

Once we've noticed the problem (usually about a week in) we call the management company for the building, and no matter how much I beg they treat it as a 'low priority' repair because its not heating/gas/water etc. so it's then another 7 to 14 days before someone actually comes out to repair the door system.

This means we can end up going without post for up to 3 weeks. Normally, I'm not too fussed with this, but this week I'm waiting for my mortgage offer documents from my bank, they posted them over a week ago 1st class, and they still haven't arrived. Yesterday I checked the door - sure enough, trades button is not working. So I've logged the repair with the management company, and as usual they said up to 2 weeks.

Question is - in the meantime, is there any way I can get my important mail within the next 48 hours (i.e by the end of this week)? The chain on the purchase is close to breaking down, the seller is frustrated with lack of progress (doesn't want to hear any more 'excuses') and wants to pull out, I will probably lose the house :(

Thanks!

Contact your local Delivery Office directly they may be holding on to it till they gain access. You'll need proof of ID if you go to collect it.

He's probably tried many times and simply got sick of wasting his time. I have flats like this on my walk, and as I start at 9:30 and finish at 3:00 they had to change the times drastically. It took a while to it sorted too. In my case the owners can set the times, but they seem to be oblivious every time there's a power cut.
