Please help
My mother posted to letters to me from Cardiff one letter was just sent by 1st class post the other one was to be signed for at the same time on the same day. I received the letter that was just sent by 1st class but the the letter needed a signature I have not received.
When I go to track the item all it states is;
Item BZ781680322GB
Status we have your item
Item BZ781680322GB was posted at st afghans road CF5 3AF on the 29/04/2105 and is being progressed
through our network for delivery
As I know this is not a fully tracked service, if I was to contact the depots where it would have been processed, would they be able to locate the item? As it would have gone to Cardiff then Northampton to Milton Keynes at kiln farm.

Re: signed delivery
no afraid not "signed for" (AKA recorded) is treated as normal mail until we scan it at the door.
Its a long shot but if you were out when the 1st one was delivered then check with your neighbours the postie may have left it with them without filling out a card telling you.

Re: signed delivery
The annoying thing is, she asked the clerk at the desk that she wanted it recorded and the clerk didn't even ask what was in the letter. So if she knew that it wasn't fully recorded she would have paid extra to have it recorded all the way through and got special delivery.

Re: signed delivery
Unfortunately that's what recorded is and always has been, but it is widely misunderstood amongst the population. In this case, it sounds like your mother got what she asked for rather than what she wanted ("the customer is always right" can lead to terrible customer service, as it assumes that the customer is perfectly informed). The minimum standard for PO clerks is to ask how much the contents are worth and when the customer wants the item to arrive: asking about the contents is only compulsory if the item is larger than a letter. A good clerk will go beyond the above, however there are often time pressures and, frankly, the public get very shirty about being asked about the contents of mail and many clerks don't ask to avoid conflict ("it's my right to send whatever I want in the mail without telling you" is fairly common, and untrue).

This is the outcome of tracing a letter I sent as Special DElivery Guaranteed.
It says delivered and then received back at the PDO again? Does this make any sense?

Re: signed delivery
No it makes no sense. In fact the only 2 ways I can think of making any sense, are so unlikely its ridiculous.
One slim chance is that the postie mis-scanned the item as delivered when in fact they couldn't. Then its been scanned back in to the office when he returned.
The other, is that there are 2 packets with the same tracking number - not impossible, but nearly so.
I'd contact the receiver just to confirm they are "happy".

Re: signed delivery
Unfortunately your mother asked for recorded delivery and that's what she got, it's not down to the clerk to ensure she is ordering the right service. However that's still no excuse for not getting your item, check with neighbours, check at your local office in case the postman didn't leave a card.
