You have to be a manager to think you have to work you contracted hours or help a colleague?

Not as big a one as you obviously! :thumbup

Perhaps if you read my whole post and not focused on nine words out of context, not only would you understand that I do not suggest that he doesn't help anyone out but that in doing the election prep he would be doing it as a favour not as part of his duty and it was his choice! :arrrghhh

I think it's ridiculous you didn't get overtime for delivering on polling card days.
Fair enough if they were the only things to deliver but we had them on a busy thurday with mail and packets through the roof. I'd have finished on time if it was only cards but the other mail bumped me over.

Still cut off a bit for childcare but the amount of time it took to convince my DOM was beyond a joke

So for those that think this is almost a separate job from our normal delivery...

How exactly do you deal with the P&L scenario and the counting of election materials for payments?

For example, 2 paired walks: one has 650 delivery points and the other has 400 delivery points; for argument sake, they will take the same amount of time to deliver because one has a few high rise buildings and the other has more properties with distances apart and dodgy terrain etc.

So how do you sort out the payment?

* You should not need OT to deliver polling cards because yo are allowed 3 days to deliver them. And we have 7 days for other election materials; they can be easily treated like d2ds, IMO.

Come on then who can answer my question from earlier? Lino prepped mine and I prepped the other walk that it's paired with, delivered them all with my p+l partner.

We had 1000+ do me and the lino split it 50/50? he never counted them or filled the sheet in - I did.

if you want to hold strictly to your hours paid, and cut off then i think its fair that you dont claim the extra money for delivering the material. Its extra workload after all and you shoudnt be expected to go over your time but at the same time you havent worked extra than your contracted hours so you shouldnt necessarily expect more money.
Regarding the OP, if you are already going to go over on your own duty then it doesnt make sense to be prepping in items for another duty, however if you have time then why shouldnt you do it ? I really dont understand why you shouldnt, its a reasonable request in your paid hours.

3.3p per prep and each 3.3p per delivery?

Whole thing is a bit messy, better with a lump sum , pro-rata even so the full time staff that prepped the part time staff's get more. Seems fair? Seems unfair that someone on a physically hard walk with less drop off points gets less than someone with an easy walk with more points.

The reason not to do it is because prepping them is half of what you're paid for, I did about 1000 today and was 1hr over, and spent about 1hr sorting counting and prepping them on Saturday. This was specifically with Poll cards, some of the other materials are counted and sequenced and I wouldn't have grumbled about doing them.

Ok so if me and you both worked in the same office and I came to you tomorrow and said "I have agreed to do overtime but you are going to finish an hour early. So can you go and do my overtime for me and I book the hours?" You would think this was reasonable?

Would this be reasonable and fair?
Don't prep the frame with the poll cards/election material unless you get it in writing from your manager, or those in their Ivory Towers at RM, that you will be guaranteed payment for said items.

You inform lino you think you will go over but you will complete for standard o/t rates in additions to election material pay, then count the cards you personally deliver (keep bit of paper on you to count using the "gate" system).

On P&L walks, the passenger will almost certainly have more drops, so likely to deliver more election material and if so get more of the money.

What gets me is that if the postman does everything by the book , meal relief, don't come in early etc and regularly go over on that day each week due to these excessively big rounds and then the DOM's come up with another way of trying to wangle out of paying O/T because of delivering election material.
On one hand RM say it only takes 8 minutes to throw in one D2D but then when you go over by the usual 1 hour on that specific day whilst doing 1 row of election material they don't want to pay docket. They can't have it both ways.

Where does it say that?
I have just had a quick glance at the agreement and it states:

All existing local payments covering the delivery of election material as stated in
paragraph 2 above will remain in place, and in accordance with this agreement, with
the following exceptions.

1. The minimum payment for delivering election material will be 3p per item.
2. The maximum payment for delivering election material will be 6.6p per item.

Nowhere that I can see does it mention a payment for prep.
If there is a payment for prepping election material what happens if you don't prep it?
Unaddressed election material can simply be delivered by the bundle as you go along. Would you only get half the payment for not pepping it?

Or are some people making stuff up as they go along?
(Look - not a swear word in sight so no need for any issuing of board warnings though I trust those that resort to the "you must be a manager" line get the same)
