What happens when some one leaves then? that duty should go up for pick, and if some one more senior picks it, then it cascades down the line. The only people here who are reserve's are either new entrants or people who wnat to float from job to job.Wild Rover wrote:In truth, the rep isn't that interested. I'm surprised he managed to get all of us out, bar 3 or 4 [out 100-odd].
The DoM and rep have apparently discussed repicks for what seems like an enternity now.
It's strange. Seniority is still the practice in our office. The more senior, they get the pick of the best. However, it's the new entrants who are coming in and keeping the f***ing duties there assigned to.
Guys with perhaps 7 - 12 years service are floaters. Only a handful have kept duties.
It really is most annoying, considering, i think, a new start, should be a floater, and then "work their way up".
Anyway...i'm in tomorrow and haven't a clue where i'll be, or what duty i'll be covering. Guess my office introduced flexi-times before Crozier and Leighton thought of the idea...bastards.........
What we try and do, is any new entrants stay on the duty for a month or so, and then we keep badgering DOM's to train them up on more duties. We do a 5 week on and 1 week off, so we have to have reserve's.
Bring it up every WTL, and keep moaning at them, we don't have a rep at the moment, but there are quite a few of us, who are a pain in the ass, they just want an easy life.

Sounds to me Wild Rover that you are to useful to them, probably because you know quite a few different deliveries etc. Seen it done at our office where they kept sweet talking a bloke so that he didn't sign for the duty he wanted. As has been stated if your local rep can't help, ask to speak to area rep.

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Aye, when someone leaves, no repick - a floater will get chucked on that duty eventually.
It happens all the time...believe me, i guestimate over the past 3 years, 10-15 people have left. And still no repick. The amount of floaters is unreal..you have the old timers, new starts and the inbetweens (who seem to get shafted more than the old or new) - f***ing joke.
I dare say i know a fair few deliveries by now. Would be nice to get my own walk though.
Am gonna kick up a stink tomorrow.
Anyway, whens this announcement? 4pm, someone say?!
Time for a brew!!!!!!

It wouldn't be that the ones who are keeping the duty are part timers is it?Wild Rover wrote:Aye, when someone leaves, no repick - a floater will get chucked on that duty eventually.
