SUSPENSION OF PLANNED INDUSTRIAL ACTION SCHEDULED FOR 18.00 HOURS MONDAY 15TH OCTOBER UNTIL 1800 HOURS TUESDAY 16TH OCTOBER AND OF THAT SCHEDULED FOR 03.00 HOURS TUESDAY 16TH OCTOBER UNTIL 03.00 HOURS WEDNESDAY 17TH OCTOBER.



CWU were informed this afternoon that Royal Mail was seeking an injunction in lieu of a full hearing to prevent industrial action taking place next Monday/Tuesday 15/16th October and Tuesday/Wednesday 16/17th October.



At 6.00 p.m. today - Friday 12th October - our lawyers advised the General Secretary that Royal Mail had been successful in obtaining the injunction. The Union was represented by John Hendy QC, together with Binder Bansell, Pattinson Brewer who vigorously defended the action in the Court. Despite this the injunction was granted.



The Court has restrained the Union from calling out its members in Mail Centres and Delivery Offices on Monday 15th. Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th October respectively and as a consequence each action consisting of strike action of 24 hour duration will no longer take place. As a consequence you should attend for work and work normally. Details of the injunction will be forwarded to Branches on receipt.



PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS DOES NOT AFFECT FURTHER PLANNED STRIKE ACTION WHICH THE UNION HAS ALREADY SERVED NOTICE OF, WHICH IS UNAFFECTED BY THIS DECISION.



It will be noted that the injunction does not cover Airports and Separate Collection Hubs but because of the small numbers involved it was thought prudent to also withdraw this planned action.


Branches are asked to ensure that all members are made aware of this. This LTB us being sent out electronically to all Branches and Divisional Reps. Divisional Reps, in particular, are asked to ensure that Branches within their areas are made aware of this communication.

Nope you heard that the PEC will get the deal at 2pm on Monday to look at before/if they then give it to us to vote on.

If, as I fear, the deal is basically the same as the last joke royal mule presented to us. Where does that leave us? It would be an obvious indication that they refuse to alter their deal. We've got Brown telling us to accept it and stop moaning. The majority of the national press not giving a toss and the general public having little or no sympathy.

MDECs - duties, Scheduled Attendance and overtime commencing at or after 12 noon Thursday 18th October 2007 and before 12 noon Friday 19th October 2007.

Given there were errors in the August notice that messed up strike action for MDECs and airports (I think), you'd think they'd have tightened it up by now.

Certainly it's a gift to Dave Ward and Billy Hayes if the deal is as s**t as everyone seems to think it will be.

Rumour has it flexibility will be negotiated locally. To me this has always been a bit of a red herring. Any right minded postie isn't going to come back at 10:30am as some do now and want to take out another round.

Should be interesting to see what happens.

From the pictures the negotiators involved are quite experienced and I reckon RM needed to start from an extreme position and come inwards. Personally (maybe a little biased) the CWU have been shafted. Lets see if the posties agree in enough numbers.
