Parcel subject to examination?

Post by Bullydog »

HI a parcel was being sent TO me. It was perfume in box and was NEW (so coincides with policy about perfume?)

Checked the tracking and said it was being subject to examination on the 27th NOV. Still being subject to examination today. Checked track details which says on the 27th item was still at stanstead airport. It was a signed for next day delivery.

27/11/14 00:30 RETURNED TO CO STANSTEAD AIRPORT
27/11/14 00:27 RETURNED TO CO STANSTEAD AIRPORT
26/11/14 10:39 ACCEPTED AT POL Such Ltd SE6 4BP

Not sure what return to CO means.

So yeah it has been at the same status for a few days with no more information from PO. Anyone know how long it is likely to be in examination for and if I am likely to get it at all?

Tis an eBay item so I am covered but I really wanted the item and would like to know how long to expect it to take.

I am also frightfully aware of the Christmas postal rush starting and wonder if it isn't destroyed, will it get here in time?

Thanks! :Very Happy :thumbup :wave

CO - anywhere usually means its being sent to a secure inspection area.

The only reason I can see it being inspected/opened is that the sender has not complied with the restrictions:

Nail varnish, perfumes and aftershaves are allowed in the UK but subject to packaging, volume, quantity and labelling restrictions. An ID8000 label must be applied ( see example ID8000 label Opens in new window) . The sender’s name and return address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging.

If thats the case then its unlikely you will see it. I would contact the seller and get them to confirm they complied with the instructions, and possibly ask them to send a replacement. If they do and you get both, as long as you do not open the parcel you can "refuse delivery" when the postman attempts delivery, or return it via the PO - again unopened and as refused, in both cases no payment is required.

Hi, thanks for reply!

I have asked about the sticker/ return address and am waiting for a reply. Unfortunately it wasn't a business seller so it is unlikely they'l have a replacement to send. I have a feeling I won't see it either although the sender spoke to someone at the PO who said it would be on its way to me soon. (possibly a lie to get the sender off the phone, I don't know)

Again, thanks for the reply! Really appreciate it!

It's being sent to the Belfast returns centre the offending item will be removed and disposed of and the remaining contents either sent back to sender or posted on to you

Sender spoke to Royal Mail whom say it is The size they are not sure about?? Don't know how they can't be sure about a size- it is 100mls well below the 150ml restriction. It was declared and well packaged as well.

At least I know the reason but still don't understand how they can examine and possibly destroy a parcel that is well within the limits it is allowed to be in. Can the sender ask for compensation if said item is in restrictions but destroyed?

Thanks for all replies.

I won't say a definite yes as Royal Mail might well make it difficult - but in theory yes. I would recommend that the sender starts collating proof, or as much as they can. Also that they investigate the RM complaints procedure, its quite convoluted if it gets escalated.

Parcel is now being sent back to sender... clicked on a link which gives reasons as to why is is going back to sender and all those reasons relate to being unable to deliver it. Parcel has been sat for 20 days- and is only now being returned... I suppose I should be happy it wasn't destroyed but there is no explanation as to why it was held- then wasn't delivered to me. Anyone got any ideas- it didn't break any policies.
