Re: Rumour of franchising the walks.
This rumour started from a CWU rep who had attended a national meeting.
Personally I hope its not true for many years to come. For myself it would spell the end of my employment with Royal Mail.

Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Right........or what? All out strike..........well we know that's not going to happen. It's a lost cause as far as the CWU is concerned because they will take the short term view of still being at the table UNTIL membership falls to such a level that they no longer get a seat.paulf0203 wrote:So to finish I would advise you all to contact the CWU and let them know that franchising is not acceptable.

No time for cynicism or pessimism dv it wont achieve nothing, we have got to nip this in the bud if we can.dvbuk55 wrote:Right........or what? Before you can nip anything in the bud you have to know whether it's true or not.paulf0203 wrote:No time for cynicism or pessimism dv it wont achieve nothing, we have got to nip this in the bud if we can.
In my opinion it's one of two things, either Royal Mail are trying to scare the s**t out of the CWU or the CWU are trying to scare the s**t out of its members.
It could of course be a joint message.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I'm afraid paul you're weeing in the wind. The CWU are no longer looking after our interests but their own and have been for some considerable time. Even given the mandate to strike the leadership bottled it and no longer have the power to strike. They wanted the right to vote on your share issue now tell me do you seriously think that it was for your benefit or for them to sit at the table again with some sort of proxy power.paulf0203 wrote:No time for cynicism or pessimism dv it wont achieve nothing, we have got to nip this in the bud if we can.dvbuk55 wrote:Right........or what? I don't think it's going to happen any time soon but I don't doubt that it could well be on RMs agenda and of course by default the CWUs agenda too. It may well be looked at as to how you sell a pig in a poke..........mind they've done it before.

Can possibly see the franchising of offices but doubt they will sell off individual rounds, particularly with the USO

Ah yes, the USO...........now how long exactly do you think that'll last? As soon as they can RM will drop it on some pretext or otheraposter wrote:Can possibly see the franchising of offices but doubt they will sell off individual rounds, particularly with the USO

Re: Rumour of franchising the walks.
Franchising is not on the agenda at the moment as it is not allowed under the Agenda for Growth Agreement. Royal Mail main plan at the moment is the mail optimisation ( single pass ) and bench merging rather than frame prepping.
That is a massive issue and a game changer. However franchising is not on the agenda at the moment and it is hard to see when it will be again as the business will have to signal to the world that they have to rip up a legally binding agreement less than a year on. The share price would wipe millions off ! It is not going to happen yet !

Re: Rumour of franchising the walks.
Well I for one feel much better now that dingo has said it's not on the agenda at the moment, so it's not likely in the next 5 weeks but I'd imagine it will be on the table next year despite any agreement. Strange that there wasn't a more strenuous denial really, as though it has been discussed but shelved for the moment.

Re: Rumour of franchising the walks.
At the moment duties are prepared separately on a frame but if you connected frames together and the mail was prepared in sequence then you could have x amount of mail given to postmen according to how many people you have as opposed to a set limit per duty. Just a guess mind but I have heard it suggested before some years ago though.Edward Hunter wrote:wtf is bench merging dingo?
