overseas mail

When did the cost of sending a Birthday card to Australia suddenly increase?
It normally cost around £1-94 to send a Birthday card to one of our children/grand children/great grand children, but this time I was told that as it was the equivalent of a UK large letter, it had to be classed as a parcel at £4-94.
This has nothing to do with Australia Post, so where did the increase come from?

its down to the size of card you have used that has cost you more if its bigger than length 24cm width 16.5cm thickness 0.5 cm then you have to pay more, there has not been big a increase in price

Okay. It's 25.5 by 18.5 by negligible. I still don't see why that should make it a parcel.

still oversize, thats why you were charged extra, pricing by proportions came in a good few years ago now, so its not a new thing

just for your info most cards now tell you on the back what size of stamp they will require

The pricing changed on 31st may this year. There is no longer a price for large letter being sent outside of uk. If the item does not fit the dimensions of a letter then it is classed as a small parcel.

I thought it was April not May, but yes, it changed this year. The change was from pricing by type of contents to pricing by size. This would be an advantage to some people, but a distinct disadvantage to anyone sending a greetings card with a badge on it.
