Thing is I've seen some addresses that have a note saying deliver to no 50. and it's 3 flights of stairs down in a block of flats. I'm not walking down there to attempt to deliver it, then walk all the way back up to 739 it.

What needs to be done is have regular internet shoppers store their details in a central database, then we can type in on the PDA what address the packet was left with, they then get email/text confirmation. No more running back and forth to deliver 739s. I wrote a more in depth explanation here - http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 17#p651084" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Have to say Norm, having read through your post about this, there are some seriously good ideas in there.

Unfortunately as i'm sure you know only too well.....
A/ Most good ideas put forward by staff are completely ignored, only to have bits of them put into practice a couple of years down the line.
B/ RM will never get the technology onboard and working to be able to implement the ideas. Anything IT related takes an eternity and when it's finally rolled out is about 10 years behind everyone else.

I do hope i'm wrong with the above and your ideas get a decent response and the implementation they deserve. :Applause

Great idea!
Just think of the Data Protection issues :shhhhh ...I myself would just love and really trust Royal Mail to keep my details safe on a central computer database of my dear neighbours taking in my parcels,thus when it gets misplaced by some gimp on a bus from central database HQ :left: (as if anybody in Royal Mail would ever do that) some shitbag can go round whilst I'm at work and do my house over marvellous.
The grabbing hands
Grab all they can
All for themselves
After all

The same issue could apply with the current system though....

You knock on a customers door but there is no answer.
Meanwhile across the road, a thieving scumbag has seen this through his window and watches you then try the neighbours.
Once you've gone, he can then shoot over and rob the known empty house!!

There could well be data protection issues, but then you don't have to opt in do you?

I think Royal Mail is clamping down due to increased numbers of parcels coming back as we can put it back of van and take it back to save time in park and loop van sharing system. But I think more people ordering things online as well.
