Free returns "return to sender"

Post by Drefong »

Hello. I just bought a product which was not as described and asked the seller to arrange refund of return postage. Their reply was to reseal the package and mark it "return to sender" to avoid postage fees. Is this legal? Any law or rules you could provide to send to the seller would be helpful

Its not illegal, but its not allowed. Resealed packages that enter the system as return to senders, are charged the cheapest postage for their weight and size, plus a £1 admin fee. The address its being sent to will be sent a grey card advising them of the cost but this can delay the item for a considerable time.

Is the seller a prolific one because if they are they should know the above. If they aren't then if you don't return it by, at a minimum, recorded delivery (with proof of postage), then they may be able to claim they never received it back and there would be no way to prove it.
