Re: Madness to go unofficial

mailjock wrote:We have to pick our battles and not fall into traps set by management to divide us. Yea we are all angry at what is happening and I was out for three unofficial days last time before we realised what management were up to and trying for an all-out strike to destroy the CWU and the will of the majority of our members to resist.

So I have worn the unofficial T-shirt but I now realise I was wrong because I hadn't realised what a cunning, conniving enemy we were up against and oh so cynical - they were using our belief in solidarity and picket lines against us and to hell with the financial ruin that loomed for us and our families and which would eventually destroy our strike.

We have to follow the union line on this - let's work the hours as like it or lump it they would appear to have legal status. But let's put in individual grievances, don't use cars, work to our time, weigh bags - these are the ways to destroy flexible timings and we can tie them up in miles of red tape by individualy challenging the start times with union assistance.

Get stories to your local papers about how this so-called family friendly company is destroying family life, especially for those with young children.
Who SAYS they have legal status ,these changes appear to contravene employment law which states they can only be introduced with agreement.Until these changes are contested in law and a legal ruling is made they have no such status.
Perhaps I failed to notice the court case and it's judgement ,if so sincere apologies, if not lets stop giving RM crap extra importance and force by falsely endowing it with legal status

Liverpool staging sit in, police called
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Keep it going guys. At least some people have the balls to stand up to intimidation and provocation.
Some on here can't see that.

[/quote This suits RM just fine.Perfect excuse for them to slag us off on TV, radio and press, and ship in the casuals. From what I saw last night the last strikes have caused chaos. You can fight them much better hand to hand inside than stood around outside the castle wall. :nana :nana :nana :nana

while i admire the lads and lasses in liverpool and london etc, about 6 months ago in devon we had an unofficial strike that lasted a week. one of our reps had his pay docked so distribution and the mail centre walked. we tryed to get support from other areas but no-one wanted to know and we became isolated. we eventually got a back to work agreement that said there would be no discrimination against any striker but it was not worth the paper it was written on. management took 25 people down the conduct code resulting in much stress for them all and 3 people were moved to other areas and one person lost his job. allegedly the charges were spurious to say the least and management have used the fear of this, to attack us even more ever since. in our experience unofficial action is very precarious.

The fact is the Union is not supporting the unofficial action. The official action has done quite a lot. Royal Mail is negotiating with the union, and that is progress.
Sure enuff, there is no agreement for what RM seems to be doing, but every time we walk unofficially we hand over the high ground to Royal Mail. If you do not want to do as the union says and return to work, then cancel your membership. Trust in the union to get us a proper deal and to get this sorted. Unofficial achieves a lot less than official action. All the best to you guys in Liverpool, but I fear this will do more damage than good.
Glasgow driver.

Q. Who exactly are the Competition?
A. People who'll post a letter for you.
