Check if item is at sorting office?

Post by scafell »

Hello, first post here

I posted a gift card I sold on eBay by 1st Class Signed For last week. Here are the tracking details

24/04/14 17:38 HELD AT ENQUIRY OFF RICHMOND YORKS PDO
23/04/14 11:59 ACCEPTED AT POL 140 Northumberla NE1 7DQ

The buyer has just messaged me asking where it is. I replied immediately and said it looked like it was at the sorting office, gave her the postcode and opening times, and asked if she received a 'Something For You' card.

Just had a message back with the very short reply "No. Nothing"

OK. So I get the impression she's not going to go out of her way to sort this out. Either that, or somehow she's already got or going to get hold of it and claim non-delivery.

Is there any way for me, the sender, to get in touch with the sorting office and verify that the letter is currently there?
I know that Signed For isn't always tracked perfectly. But assuming it *is* at the sorting office, have I got a good chance of getting proof of delivery?
Or is it possible that she already has the item?

Thanks in advance

She may have received a grey surcharge card, which looks possible with the status you posted. Are you certain you paid the correct amount.

I'd contact then and see if they have had a grey card asking for a missing postage + £1 fee.

If that is the case get the details from her card (item no as well as tracking code) and you can pay on-line for them - this will release the item for delivery.

Beyond that there is not much more I can suggest.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply.

I definitely paid the right postage. I have a receipt from the Post Office for £1.72 showing a weight of 0.020kg. That's the correct amount - 62p postage + £1.10 for Signed For.

I don't think I'm going to get much help from the buyer. She's a woman of few words and slow responses, which makes things a pain...

Give Richmond PDO a bell, ask them what the problem is...

Unfortunately neither of those numbers get me the delivery office (I guess they don't want to be contacted...)

The tracking status has now changed to "Returned to CO", which I gather means it will be coming back to me?

Items are held at the enquiry office for eighteen days awaiting collection.

Since the date of receipt in the enquiry office is 24th April and 18 days have now elapsed then I'd assume the customer didn't collect the item, for whatever reason, and it is being returned to you.

Thanks for all the help.

It turned up safely back at my house today, with quite a lot scribbled on it.

It seems the buyer simply couldn't be arsed to go and collect it.
