Parcel Stuck In Germany

Post by epinephelus »

Hi there,
I posted a parcel to Greece with International Trracked + Signed for on 24/04/2014.
The RM tracking number is RU388758459GB.
According to Royal Mail:
Your item, posted on 24/04/14 with reference RU388758459GB has been passed to the overseas postal service for delivery in GREECE.

And the GLS website has only one entry:
28/04/2014 11:46 Inbound to GLS location Germany

The ACS website which is the partner in Greece has no information for the number provided by GLS.

Is such a delay on the GLS hub normal?

Thanks

I would say its unusual - however whilst reasearching it I have found a contact page for GLS at https://gls-group.eu/IE/en/contact" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and a mobile app as well which may be of use when it finally gets moving. https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... 29uc2lnIl0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

I would use the contact form on the 1st link above to contact them, it may kick start it.

Thanks for the reply. I just contacted them.
To prepare for the worst though I have a further question:
The parcel contains a mobile phone which RM wouldn't insure for international delivery.
So if this is lost what compensation am I entitled to ?

At a guess the cost of postage only  probably not the contents.

Taken from here:
http://www.royalmail.com/personal/help- ... onal-items" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Code: Select all

Postage fee refund plus compensation on the basis of actual loss, where evidence of posting and value can be provided. This is subject to the maximum payable being to the lower of the market value and £50. Unless enhanced compensation has been purchased in which case compensation up to the lower of the market value and £250 may be paid.
A postage fee refund only shall be payable where the item is of no intrinsic value.
Enhanced compensation is not available for mobile telephones.
Which means I could be entitled for up to £50 compensationm; still well below the value of the handset but better than nothing.

I am wondering why mobile phones are explicitly excluded from the insurance. My only guess is that theft somewhere in the transit chain is more likely.
