Rather odd situation involving Langley and 2 parcels

Hi,
I ordered a couple of items from China, and the tracking number I have says that my order is at Langley and has been there since the 3rd. Nothing odd there, customs might be taking a look. However, today a package arrives from China, with similar but incorrect items in it. Also, the tracking number is not the one that my order has, but the name and address are mine. When i check the tracking number on the RM site, it also says that the item is at Langley, even though it is sat on my desk. I'm guessing RM won't be interested in the one that arrived as it has my name and address on it, but why is that one still showing as being at Langley? Could the other box have already been delivered but it too has not been scanned out? Is there anything I can do here? Wait to see if the item with my tracking number arrives too? Contact the seller to find out if they made a cock up?

Why don't you try inputting the number of the parcel that has arrived? Seeing as they've screwed up your order they may also have given you the incorrect tracking number and the one supposedly in Langley is for someone else.
Personally I have seen some suppliers use the same tracking number for several items.

Chinese items are not tracked in uk, so the last scan will probably be langley unless your local postie scans them on delivery which will update the tracking but is not something he has to do as china post packets are not a reciprocal tracked product

So there's absolutely no way that I can find out if the package with my proper tracking number is still at Langley or whether it has been delivered erroneously to someone else?

If it has got a barcode on it and it scans, then surely he does have to.
Do all posties have a working knowledge of countries with reciprocal tracked product arrangements?

If there's a barcode that goes into the PDA then it gets scanned, just like if the RLE hands you an item you treat it like a special.

Assuming the parcels haven't been scanned after arrival in the UK, would customer services be able to confirm/deny the address on the parcel bearing the tracking number that should be my order?

Regardless of it had been scanned rm customer services would not be able to give you an address, the address on the parcel is not recorded

There's no rule that says al with barcodes must be scanned, and the rle are handing you the item because the sending postal service has paid rm to treat it like a special

But if you do scan it, it comes up with a dot denoting a signature is required, suggesting it should be scanned.
Why would a postie decide what should or shouldn't be scanned?
I have no idea if reciprocal arrangements are in place with any given country so if it has a barcode it gets scanned.

Is there a definitive list of countries that need a scan?
Who compiles it and how often is it updated?

I always scanned anything I had with a barcode on it. Better to scan and not need to than to not and find you should have done. If the PDA wasn't interested, then neither was I :D
