I have noticed that a lot of people who work in customer facing roles (like bank clerks and even the staff who work in the bingo hall) wear a name tag with only their first name.
Our security badges have our full name. Why?
If a customer asks for your name to make a complaint, are you obliged to give it to them?

My badge has only got my first name on it. That's also the only name I give if a stroppy customer wants to know who they've been talking to.

Well i don't have one. Was asked for a photo and what name i wanted as my name on the card but that was 6 months ago

They are all out of date now, we're a laughing stock with old photos on them and the words EXPIRES 01/02/13. Embarrassing is'nt it.
Why are lino's paid full-time ??

Wish I did expire last year, asked for it, offered it , didnt get it, (vr) now it turns out my doms took it and his manager ! fix.

Laughing stock how. In 17 years I have never been asked for ID, I never wore my ID on delivery or in the D.O, even when I went to mail centre with collections. The old gold coloured badges i used to wear, but they used to fall off. You are not under any requirement to give your name to any member of the public.
It's private info, full stop.
If they want to make a claim, your identity can always be worked out by the manager.
Whether through providing your van reg plate, or the customer giving their address if it was their postie.
I'm sure there are some instances where your identity may be difficult or impossible to prove, but then.....
If asked why you refused, it's easy, I didn't want the complainant to be able to identify me/where I live etc.
It's private info, full stop.

If you are ever stopped by IB while out on delivery this is the first thing they ask for you to show, if you haven't one then have a good reason cos that's a cross on your inspection list. I know this because people in our area have been stopped over the last few months.
