eBay !

Post by Smurf99 »

Just some advice please ! I sell on eBay up to 100 items per day and they are all sent by second class large letter.
Upto 10% of these items are lost in the post or never arrive at their destination, is there anything I can do without sending recorded to ensure these items are dealt with properly .
10% of my stock is half my profit and it is just ridiculous that the Royal Mail cannot post a letter to the address on the envelope !!

What I'm sure is happening is the items are being delivered to the address but the buyers are saying they have not, either to get a refund or a second item for free. This is a real problem for ebay sellers. I'm a postman and will only send ebay items recorded to solve this problem.

I agree. 99.9% of those items 'lost' will be in the home of the buyer. Some even select the seller based on them not sending Signed For. It's sad and scandalous but that's today's society for you.

Not that I would condone such fraudulent activity, but I have seen mail with what looks, to the untrained eye, to be a traceable code printed on it, but is just a mock up. Or you could bite the bullet and send via a recorded service, it may not deter too many people from buying from you or actually cost you less than re sending goods.

if your not willing to pay for recorded delivery then i suggest downloading an inland mail claim form and then get proof of postage for all of these items from your local post office and claim for compensation for every item that goes missing, it is a bit more laborious but will reduce your costs,

Also if your selling on ebay why not just add the extra onto the postage cost and send by recorded delivery, even if it meant upto a 50% drop in sales, you would not be losing out unless your sales were less than 50% of what they were previously

and yes items may be going missing in the post, but to be honest the vast vast majority of items are delivered correctly, so I think it is also likely that some of your customers are being less than honest, if they are asking for their money back in the first instance instead of a replacement then i would be a little bit suspicious
