As part of our Agenda for Growth, we will continue to work with the CWU to bring in the different phases of the new agreement over the coming months. To date:

•Royal Mail and the CWU have been working together to clear all outstanding industrial disputes.
•Joint briefings are now taking place promoting fairness, dignity and respect in the workplace.
•We are jointly visiting 20 delivery offices to identify how resource is being aligned to workload as part of the delivery review. Ten offices were chosen by Royal Mail and 10 by the CWU.

Does anybody know which 20 offices were chosen?

We had Bob Gibson and RM management at ours yesterday. I guess it was related? I'm only guessing as I wasn't there. In the PE area. A sign of the times that the two are working hand-in-hand now though. Very chummy.

Told today that we'll be lapsing another 2 duties from next week, this is apparently due to every office in the country having to lapse an extra 10%.

Heard today that a few "rogue" managers are trying to implement the, as yet unannounced, "incentive scheme" - which involves, allegedly, no payment for overtime which will go into a savings pot - sounds remarkably similar to a previous scheme - hasn't been suggested here yet but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

There wil be no savings pot then who in there right mind would do ot for everyone else to benefit.

Well we'll have to see what the maestros of negotiations have come up with, but I see a fair bit of flexibility, workload to manpower, lapsing. One scenario that may fly is when a duty is lapsed where OT might have been an option the duty is covered via flexibility and any "saved" hours are then put into the pot. These are the possibilities when the small print hasn't been written before the ballot.

We haven't started official lapsing yet but odds and sods here and there is a fairly regular occurrence. Then again we are quite a number of staff short.

I take mine if I have time, but the point is, a week after signing a new agreement, a core aspect of it is already being ignored by managers and union both. It doesn't reassure you that any delivery revision in the future, will fare any better.

Motherwell - Scotland:

FT/PT of 52/47.
FT start time of 7am to 3 pm and PT starts at 9.45am

* For operational reasons Ft staff finishes 1 hour later than Pt (why and how?)
** CWU Unit Rep says 'sometimes they call the PT staff in early, for 8.30am and he also said that no-one comes in early to start and everyone takes their meal relief (break)

South Lambeth - London:
medium sized office

we are absorbing most weeks. but when they are told ''we havent got time'' they say well ''manage your packets'',,,i.e. stand down your packets so you can get your lapsing done.....lapsing is supposed to be done if we havent got enough work to take us to our time. so willfully delaying packets to do more letters is an absurd contradiction of the very purpose of lapsing. gaffer says it easier to get loops of mail covered than packets....they are done at a later date. its a madhouse,,,,A MADHOUSE.
