Strange question

Post by gustavus »

Hi there,

I'm wondering if anyone who works/has worked as postman/woman could answer a question for me? I'm just trying to get a detail right in a book.

If someone lived on the 5th floor of a block of a council flats (in London in the 1980s) would they have got their post delivered through their front door? Or is more likely the post for everyone in the building would be left on the ground floor in a communal area/lobby?

As I say - a strange question but not sure how it works now and whether it was different in those days. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

its still the same as now, it all depends on whether there is a communal letter box at the front door of the building, if yes it goes through that, if no it goes to every door as long as they have a letter box

Not London but I lived on the eleventh floor of a block of flats in the 1970s and delivery was to each and every flat, and I expect that would normally be the case.
