Clash that was not what I was saying at all. But because there are 3 important protections which the union has secured it is inevitable that some indivduals on fixed term contract starting with juniority first may not have a job once the revision has been concluded.
The protections I am talking about is no complusory redundancies , no permanent full timer has to become part time , no permanent part timer has to reduce their hours , all fixed term contract staff can have a permanent job after 2 years.
These inevitably mean that some part timers under 2 years may not have a job at an office after a revision that does not mean they do not get an opportunity to work in a different delivery office there after and remember if an office has been transformed FTCs should be made permanent unless agreed by the CWU and this is normally as a result of a planned closure , a revision due etc.
Now clash if you are in an office with no vacancies and the revision reduces full time staff by 10 and increase part time by 6 at say 28 hours and you have no one willing to buy down and no one who wants to move then obviously the business may give 4 vrs as those jobs go immediately but then they are faced with a postion that do they give vrs based on losing just say 11 hous as they have to then recuit 28 hour contracts.
What often is decided is that they don't cover the full times when on leave normally increases absorption and then when someone leaves they back fill the job with 28 hour contracts.
Now we have made up over 80 FTCs to permanent over the last few months over 2 years and will make up more but sadly some FTCs will not have a contract at the end as that was why they were recuited as FTCs in the first place. Our aim is to limit this as much as we can but the reality is that someone who has started say last week in an office and that office is due to complete a revision in say April and they have enough permanent part time staff then sadly unless there are vacancies elsewhere they will not have a postion.
