Special Delivery item sent to National Returns Centre

Post by Specman »

Hi,
I send some parts from a very expensive airgun via Royal Mail Special Delivery
The airgun is a PCP, pre-charged pneumatic, and the parts I sent were the cylinder ( empty, not pressurised ) a brass adaptor and some lead pellets.

I expected it to get there quickly and safely, now this nonsense! What is even more frustrating is that I can't plead my case.

I sent it through my business account. What is in that package is no more than an inanimate object! However it is extremely valuable.

Airgun parts are completely valid via Royal Mail. What is the chance that this item will either be returned or delivered safely to its destination. I am having kittens worrying about it.

As it's Special Delivery will it be dealt with promptly?

Is there anything I can do?

Thank you

there was another thread on here a few weeks ago about something similar, its been sent to belfast to get opened and checked out by an expert to make sure its not an illegal firearm, in the last case it took quite a while about a month, its in the t+cs about prohibited goods, that this may happen and there may be a delay, sorry it might not be what you want to hear but as long as it is legal it will get sent onto the destination after its been checked out, i would call 08457 740 740 for more info

Try the tracking number here (http://www.royalmail.com/trackdetails" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and post the output, it might give a clue as to what's going on

Hi,
Thanks for that.

I'm confused though...What does it mean? Does it mean it's not at Belfast and just delayed at Aberdeen but now has been sent to Warrington? Destination is Widnes in Cheshire.

What does this mean ? 17/12/13 20:02 RETURNED TO CO ABERDEEN MAIL CENTRE

What is CO?

Also the Warrington Mail centre is about 9 miles from its destination. Am I wrong that it has gone to the National Returns Centre? Maybe I have been given the wrong information

Thanks

All the scans that are under the Warrington one are probably just different scans as it moved through Abeerden MC.

The latest scan is at Warrington so it made it there - however its WELL overdue I would get onto Royal Mail customer service ASAP.

Call 08457 740 740 and tweet @royalmail or even direct message them after following them with the tracking number.

Lots of conflicting information. Called three times today, twice myself and once by the recipient. Some say it's lost it's return address (which is not possible as the return address is on the PPI postage label and hand written on the Royal Mail SD poly bag), some say it may still be delivered to recipient, another tale is that is on it's way to the National Returns Centre. But all agree it is currently at Warrington.

This is so annoying! Only 9 miles away from its destination!

Can anybody help me? I sent it SD so it would be safe!

two of those bits of information are related, when they say its lost its return address and its on its way to the national return centre, they are both saying its going to belfast, probably because there is a scan that says thats where its being sent(The return to CO is what indicates it should be going to belfast) but they are making the wrong assumption on the reason, as said before it may go to belfast to be examined before getting sent on again to the destination it probably got misrouted to warrington as that address is where it should be going but got there and they realised its to go to belfast and has then been sent there, read the below thread it will give you some idea whats happening

Hi mate

I had my rifles action sent to Belfast on the 15th of November, and it was returned to me 4 weeks later. In the box was my empty buddy bottle as well.Like you i was having kittens and sick with worry, that it was going to be destroyed.I took it apon myself to mostly deal with Royal Mail Customer Services, rather than let the sender do it all.although he did contact them to.
I new if it went to a claim, the onus was on him to do the chasing, but as it was not at that stage,i decided to do it myself.Got a complaints refrence number, and kept contacting RMCS every other day,but was told to give them 5 working days for Belfast to check my parcel contents, then was told they were having trouble getting the firarms expert to inspect it.He did inspect it,and decided i broke none of thair rules.Took them a week to send it to Belfast, and a week exactly to return it,after saying it was okay.Thair is that much 3rd hand horror stories floating about,as to what they do to your air rifle in Belfast, maybe some are true, but RMCS answered all my emails and phone calls, and when my parcel was returned, the contents were fine, and the box was sealed well, and put in a heavy duty plastic bag, with enough stickers letting you know it had been on a Royal Mail jaunt, and a letter inside explaining what had happened. Its frustrating as hell, when you have done everything correctly and still your parcel gets pulled, but thair is nothing you can do apart from get your local RFD to send it out with his courier. You will get your parcel back bud, just keep in contact with RMCS be polite but persistent. If you want any more info let me know.....The guys on here are very helpful, even though one or two did a good job of putting me in a panic,lol...but even they can be misinformed.

Well,
My wife was very unsympathetic regarding this problem, until on Christmas morning she discovered the RM had done EXACTLY the same thing with her daughters Christmas, sent on the 14th December RM Special Delivery and pull out of the line by some 'over enthusiastic' operator. The box contained a designer handbag among other things and lovingly packed and wrapped for Christmas. This too has been sent to the National Returns Centre... In case it might be, erm :hmmmm 'dangerous' :arrrghhh

If all this BS is due to H&SE then its pathetic :evil/mad
If its all due to terrorism...Then they have won! Messing up the system, costing the nation a fortune in lost trade and goods. :evil/mad
All this nonsense about aerosols. How many can of deodorant and hairspray do you think are in the hand luggage on every plane currently in the sky right now?

My wife had a thriving business selling cosmetics. Her biggest seller was nail varnish, now that's pretty much banned. How many royal mail staff have been injured by 10ml bottle of nail varnish?

The whole thing is a huge conspiracy in my opinion. Targeting internet sellers to protect the crumbling high street. The amount of money lost in these two parcels (both perfectly valid and legitimate) £300

The amount of money lost at the time they change the resticted items list (and we never realised) £1500+

The amount of business lost due to RM over zealous restricted items list nationwide must be millions!

Answer me this. As a RM account holder spending thousands of pounds every month with them for the past ten years can anybody tell me what has happened to all my lost post? My invoice is inside with name address and telephone. My package is stamped with a return address. My PPI stamp has a return address, customer address on the packet. I have NEVER had lost items come back EVER! How can they be lost? How can a Special Delivery EVER be lost? All that 'Lost' post must be somewhere! :whistle

My two recent rerouted, never to be seen again, SPECIAL DELIVERY items SHOULD be treated SPECIAL as that is the service I paid for. I understand there needs to be security. But a special delivery needs treating as such. If you pull it out of line you should check it and have it back on its way in two days tops! All this waiting a month is a totally unacceptable service. Specials are usually urgent and as far as I am concerned RM are not keeping to their contract. The postage on these items alone was £25 and I expect some level of decent service for that type of money.

And finally if these packets of Old Spice, Lynx, dangerous looking BB guns and parts are so bl**dy dangerous and likely to go bang, way to go to fly them to Belfast. Is that cos if they do go 'pop' they are used to it over there? The system is a joke. I am going to raise the issue's above with the Regulator, My MP and The Federation of Small Business.

Royal Mail management is squeezing the life blood out of the Nation's on -line retailers. In a recent survey when asked what was holding back business RM was up there with Bankers.

None of the above is a reflection on the sterling work that ordinary boys and girls do to get the mail to its destination in all weathers. I have total respect for the humble postie.

The new list is due to restrictions put in place by the IATA, these regulations were advertised well in advance last year, including sending literature to all account holders, and also all post offices displayed posters and leaflets for customers there, RM had absolutely no control over the implementation of these regulations

Special deliveries are very very rarely lost, cant comment on your other items though

Unfortunately it is in the terms and conditions that there may be a delay, also at this time of year there is a large increase in the number of parcels to be checked, at another time of year it probably would be dealt within in a day or two

They go by road to belfast and are not flown, the BB gun would be sent for inspection by a firearms expert to check it is actually a bb gun and not a real fire arm being sent illegally not because its a dangerous good
