Is my parcel lost ?

Post by blanclim »

Hello everyone. I have been waiting for a parcel which was sent from UK to Hong Kong. The parcel was sent on 14/10/2013, but I still haven't received it now. I tried to track the parcel in royal mail's website, here is what it says:

16/10/13 AM DESPATCHED TOHONG KONG HONG KONG
15/10/13 23:51 RECEIVED ATHEATHROW WORLDWIDE DC HEATHROW WORLDWIDE DC
14/10/13 18:23 DESPATCHABLE TOHWDC SIGNED FOR ROAD 3 EXETER MAIL CENTRE
14/10/13 17:34 COLLECTED EXETER MAIL CENTRE

It is so strange that it takes more than one month and is still travelling to Hong Kong. I also tried to track the parcel in Hong Kong Post's website, but there is no record. Is it possible that my parcel is already lost in transit? Please help.

It's probably travelling by surface mail to Hong Kong

Are there any ways to know if it is sent by surface mail? All I know is that it is sent using "international signed for". From my past experiences, the parcels were usually delivered around 1 week. That's why I am so worried that my parcel is lost this time..

All mail leaving the UK from RM's network will go via HWDC irrespective of whether it's airmail or surface mail.

We saw this a lot with mail going to Brazil.

It seems wrong if one is paying for airmail that it can just be put on a ship... spacePhoenix - do you know what influences the decision to use sea over air, even when "Airmail" has been purchased?

I presume that the mail for Hong Kong takes roughly the same route as mail for China. If so, there's a current incident on Royal Mail's international incident bulletin - http://www.royalmail.com/service-update/international:
Brunei, South Korea, Philippines, Japan, China, Taiwan, Malaysia
Start date: 10th October 2013
End date: Ongoing

One of our airline partners has informed us of problems in the routes listed above, due to changing handlers at their overseas hub. This has led to delays to cargo and mail passing through that hub for several weeks.

Our partner is working to overcome this problem, which could continue to affect mail for the next week or so and we will keep you informed of any developments.

Just an update. I finally received my parcel today! I can't believe that it takes almost 3 months for my parcel to arrive. I thought my parcel was lost forever because the sender said the expected delivery date was between 6-7 days.

Thank you everyone for the help!
