You don't get no time to meet new faces the only thing u meet is your frame full of packets that i may aswell put in my arse coz they wont all fit in the bag properly. #RantOver
Welcome to RM, all i can say is that 20-30 years ago this was a job for people in the latter stages of their working lives who wanted a nice steady job to see them through their last 10 years until they retired. Now it's more a young man's game!
A young mans game, your not wrong there mate the bags weigh a ton and no1 weighs them. Dont get my break im entitled to coz i feel my partner wants to get out, not the type to take s**t tho i will speak up if it carrys on. Do actually enjoy being out there but not today was a bit wet wet wet #SoggySocks
You should not be carrying any bags on the shoulder. Do the job properly and show the job for what it really is!

A bit harsh mate, the guy has only just started. The training is pretty inadequate, but that suits management because they can cut corners and operate within their budgets.
If you are in a large office it might be an idea to have a chat with the union rep or one of the senior guys in the office. Good luck I am sure you will get the hang of it soon enough, but don't be backward in asking other posties for advice, you'll find some DOMs will tell you what suits them and that doesn't make the job easier for you!

I took a new starter out on a round the other day. He'd had his induction, so I thought it would just be a case of showing him the frame, taking him round the delivery, making him aware of hazards etc...

Turned out he'd not been shown a PDA, had never seen or been told how to fill out a P739, didn't know about Signed Fors or Specials, or tracked etc...

I asked him about the induction. He told me it was mainly Health and safety, with a huge amount of time spent showing them how to safely lift an 8kg bag of mail :left:

Whereas these days it's old codgers like me (56 and a bit) who've "had it fairly easy" behind a desk for best part of 30 years ... get made redundant .. and find RM are the only peeps who will take on 50+ peeps - so - my 'last 10 years' are slightly different to what I expected - and due to OAP date changes - it's gonna be slightly longer :nervous
"We're under model" - oh no we're not - stick your lapse elsewhere ...

I'm now in my 5th week and have been out on my own on different walks the whole time. Went out with someone on the 1st and 2nd day but that's it. Training is a joke but you pick it up as you go along. We have not gone through revision yet so all walks are on your own.

The one thing that annoys me is being pushed and pulled on to different walks everyday and being expected to finish in line with a someone who's done the walk for years. This week alone i've done 3 different walks with me down for 2 new ones today. Was meant to get training yesterday but something about not having a pin put an end to that so was out on a walk then doing a cut off after. The only upside is here the managers have never questioned OT and i'm over 1-2 hours a day which is nice since i'm only on a PT contract.

Now that is shite.Nobody should ever be sent out on a walk without training. In the old days it was 3 days training on a town walk and 4 on a rural with them finishing the week off on their own and at the first available opportunity doing a whole week.Thank f**k I am not a new starter as with my limited attention span and feeble mindedness I wouldn't last a week.
