Whereas these days it's old codgers like me (56 and a bit) who've "had it fairly easy" behind a desk for best part of 30 years ... get made redundant .. and find RM are the only peeps who will take on 50+ peeps - so - my 'last 10 years' are slightly different to what I expected - and due to OAP date changes - it's gonna be slightly longersussexlad wrote:Welcome to RM, all i can say is that 20-30 years ago this was a job for people in the latter stages of their working lives who wanted a nice steady job to see them through their last 10 years until they retired. Now that is shite.Nobody should ever be sent out on a walk without training. In the old days it was 3 days training on a town walk and 4 on a rural with them finishing the week off on their own and at the first available opportunity doing a whole week.Thank f**k I am not a new starter as with my limited attention span and feeble mindedness I wouldn't last a week.joeyuk wrote:I'm now in my 5th week and have been out on my own on different walks the whole time. Went out with someone on the 1st and 2nd day but that's it. Training is a joke but you pick it up as you go along. We have not gone through revision yet so all walks are on your own.
The one thing that annoys me is being pushed and pulled on to different walks everyday and being expected to finish in line with a someone who's done the walk for years. This week alone i've done 3 different walks with me down for 2 new ones today. Was meant to get training yesterday but something about not having a pin put an end to that so was out on a walk then doing a cut off after. The only upside is here the managers have never questioned OT and i'm over 1-2 hours a day which is nice since i'm only on a PT contract.
