If a dog bites a postman , what is the Royal Mails procedure ?

What is the postman instructed to do by Royal Mail after an incident with a dog?

Are rules for postmen/women regarding dogs different in Wales,Scotland or Northern Ireland?

It can depend on the severity of the bite and the circumstances surrounding the incident but roughly.

1. Suspend delivery to any addresses affected. Contact the Customers concerned to advise them. Investigate the incident and put in procedures to lessen the chances of a repeat occurrence. In worst cases instigate prosecution of the person in control of the dog. The Union, if the postie is a member may start a claim for compensation.

2. Report it to concerned authorities and departments, this includes near misses, threats involving dogs, or even if they just feel threatened by the actions of a dog owner.

3. No the Laws are different. In Scotland the owner can be prosecuted for an attack, threat of an attack or even just having a dog out of control. In England owners cant be prosecuted for an attack on private land. Posties can refuse delivery whenever they feel their safety is under threat.

Kick the dog in the head :dance

Until the owner comes out and says "he doesn't normally do that"

Postie then gets compo and sends you a postcard from his holiday destination thanking you and the dog for the free trip :left:
