OK, so I was sorting through a load of old paperwork over the Bank Holiday weekend and I stumbled upon an old ‘Sorry, you were out’ card. I remember this card as I meant to make enquiries about it once before but I misplaced it, unfortunately.
The card is actually a few years old (3+ years I think) but it does show a partial date (DD/MM) and a 13 digit item number. It states that the item was ‘Recorded Signed For’ and required a signature. I've placed the 13 digit number beginning with AG into the tracking system but unfortunately it is unable to provide me with any information (already guessed this anyway). I did have a suspicion that the item may be a letter from Northern Ireland, but without any details I cannot say for sure. As a result of I have sent an e-mail to Royal Mail asking for some assistance, even if they can only inform me where the package was sent from.
Anyway, I've since received an automated email informing me that someone will contact me within 3 working days, but what are the chances that they may still be able to find any information on this delivery?
Thanks.
BTW, thanks to everyone who answered my last post – the problem has now been resolved :D

To be honest he chances are very slim, I don't think they keep even electronic records going back that far.

Are the 13 digit number ever reused?

Unlikely although not impossible there is a matrix that gives the check digit, (last number) this is followed by the country code. The first 2 letters usually indicate the service - that leaves 8 numbers so a possible 100,000,000 combinations for each 2 letter code (and most services have a many different 2 letter codes. This is just under double the total daily traffic for letters . So as I say possible but extremely unlikely over a 3 year period.Louis81 wrote:Are the 13 digit number ever reused?
