RECORDED DELIVERY

Post by ANNOYEDK »

Hi, I have posted numerous times using recorded delivery and never really had any problems and this Saturday I went into my local post office in the morning to send two items recorded delivery. One was a normal letter and one a large letter. Both were posted at exactly the same time. Now the post office man was telling me that if my documents were important that I should use the more expensive service of "special delivery" but I did not have enough money on me and stated I had never had problems with recorded in the past. He then told me that things could go missing using my method and it was not guaranteed but I still assured him I wanted to send them by recorded delivery as at least they were TRACKED. Anyway by Monday morning I went to track my items and my small letter read that it was received in the delivery office in Croydon ready for delivery and then I went on again and it stated that it had been delivered to my respondent. I then tried to track my larger letter and it only stated that it was received by the office I had posted it at and still does at this time. I called royal mail yesterday who stated it is not lost until 15 days have passed and I quoted to her that it still says that it is being processed in the office I took it to. She stated it only ever updates to say when its been delivered but my other letter did not. That one stated it had been received at Croydon delivery office. I am fuming that it seems really strange that my larger letter has got lost and still not been delivered and it also has not updated as being received at any other place. I also find it VERY strange that my post office man was trying to sell me the much more expensive postage and ironically my post HAS gone astray just as he said.

What can I do now? Can it not be traced anywhere as it is called TRACKED delivery?

The Recorded Signed For service is NOT a tracked service. It is purely a service where you get a signature when it is delivered, and a slightly higher compensation claim if the item does go lost. Special Delivery on the other hand is a tracked service, and will update when it goes through tracking points (such as being received by an office etc...)

Because of this, there is multiple possibilities to what could have happened to the large letter:

1. An attempted delivery was made, but no-one was available to sign for the item.
2. It's been delivered, but with the card forms it can take a while for them to appear on the system (sometimes a week or two).
3. It was delivered without a signature, and therefore the system knows no better.

In all of the cases where I use the Recorded Signed For service, I have never received an update saying it has been received by an office. In most cases I'll get a Delivered message, and then eventually a signature.

If you want tracking, in the future pay the extra for the Special Delivery service.
