Some of these people have been institutionalised and don't know anything outside of Royal Mail, there are some individuals that are unemployable outside of RM they wouldn't last 5 seconds in the real world, there is a way of making the job better for yourself and that is by doing it properly, if everybody did it from day one, there is absolutely nothing they can do about it, privatisation probably would never have been considered in the light of it, the "way backward" would never been raised, more staff would have been employed to take up the excess work.

Unfortunately there will still be those that will ruin the job, making it unbearable for others who would have done the job properly, many people have different ways of coping with stress, the managers knows their weakness and is exploiting it to the full, in many way I perceive RM workplace as a continuation of the school playground, with the usual cliques, bullies and those that just tries to get on.

As a young pup  I used to fly around, use my car, ghosted OT, came in a bit earlier, one day when the rules changed, no more job and knock, that was the day I stopped and took a step back and really looked at the big picture, especially having seen some really good people sacked, that my attitude to the job changed, I realised I am just a number, I am expendable, there are worse jobs out there and lower pay, so my priority is to preserve my job and the paycheck that comes with it, I advise others not to play the mugs game unfortunately some of them won't listen. :arrrghhh
You make a lot of valid points.
I think those that moan are doing so because they compare the job as it was years ago. The difference between now and then is quite surprising.
However, compared to other jobs, where people get minimum wage, which is about £125 pw less than an RM FT job, and in the case of, for example, supermarkets, where staff get a 5 over 7 contract(work 5 out of 7 which can change at a moments notice) and have to work on Bank Holidays with no day in lieu given back.
If staff were to leave and manage to get a job elsewhere, then they would really know how well off they were at RM.
I have had a few people leave from my office and severely regret it very quickly, advising me to stay where I am for as long as I can.
It's not the job that I, and many others, have a problem with. It's managers and how they and RM treat us that is the real issue.

I get paid 25k for a 30 hr/week unskilled job. Some people get paid half that(still above minimum wage), if there lucky. This job is overpaid, I hear bozos complaining while playing with their mobile and looking up at the Idiot Board every second letter. This job provides a creche for so many clowns who don't realise in terms of capabilities they've hit the jackpot. This job is monotonous, repetitive and I hate it and everyone of the 6323 days I've spent doing it, but to carp about the pay is imbecilic.

its way above it half your claim is £12,500 minimum wage on same hours would be around £8k.

Sure is if you were really getting what you claim.

as is making claims that are factually incorrect and over inflated.

Why do people complaining about their jobs wind some people up, everyone, probably even Moya, complain about their job its human nature and its ironic that people complaining about people complaining can't even see that they are guilty of the same thing, double standards now that's worth complaining about.

I haven't heard anyone in mail centres and collections moan about the job more then delivery staff because they get shafted all the time so it will put you on a downer and want to leave because when we talk it goes on deaf ears to the stupid sh@@ management
The problem has always been that workrate targets and general working conditions vary so much between functions. I would say that the delivery postman has the most difficult task and would come out above processing and collections if the jobs were evaluated objectively using a points based system. As with managerial grades there should be some differentials between OPG roles and this shouldn't just be left to allowances.
Delivery is only difficult in 2 situations. 1) You won't, or are unable to stand up for yourself and work over/come in early without claiming just to complete. And 2) You are incapable of doing the job to a decent standard and struggle every day, there are several of these in my office who literally wouldn't last a week with another employer.

For anyone who is reasonably competent, reasonably fit and has a backbone then delivery isn't difficult. NW posted what I left out, that too many within RM are institutionalised and haven't got a clue what is happening in the real world.

All they have for comparison is this job 10,20,30 years ago, when lets be honest it wasn't really work. We were paid for doing next to nothing.
Surely delivery gets more difficult as your age increases? Or does that not matter?

So; as long as you have a 'backbone' then all is okay?

In the 'real world' , what does happen? I will be interested in your reply

BTW; I have been in more challenging jobs than this ... but never one nore wearing nor physical

Load of crap.
MGV drivers barely get that level of pay on FT. And a fair portion of them will still have grandfather rights payments too.

The earnings data is published in the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings and covers the average pay for workers, covering more than 400 trades and professions.

The data is drawn from HM Revenue & Customs and Pay As You Earn tax records. Big business bosses and chief executives saw a 3.8% per cent fall in their salaries in 2012 year - earning an average of £120,830.

The report revealed that the average annual salary for full-time employees is now £26,664. http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/arti ... tions.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

the postie is ranked 333 in the list and my pay is around £5000 below the average quoted , I get a late shift payment but don't do overtime.
why do working people , attack other working people ? we have logistic drivers come into our mail centres that are on £450 take home per week and they ONLY sit in a cab and drive ? good luck to them I say. £300 a week with the cost of living in this country , in my book, is not a lot of money ? of course there are many jobs paying less but the idea is to drive their wages up to the level of ours , not drive our pay done to theirs ?
I expect in every delivery office there is walks that are more Easier than others ? why not substitute the word Easy with Bearable ? puts a whole different slant on each and every ones job . my job is Easy , my job is Bearable . surely it is the job of the Management with the Union to create walks that are Bearable which will surely increase efficiency and decrease wear and tear on the worker . now obviously this is not the case , so lets increase the less unbearable jobs so you lot have got a lot less to whinge to each other about !! ??
"why should it just be the bankers, politicians and the idle rich who get all the best things ? we demand a standard of living for our members that enables them to share in the fine wines and times that the likes of Cameron and his Eton buddies take for granted " - the late great Bob Crow RIP.
