Riddle or Cut-Off - Current Union Policy?

Well my union rep was on the ball this morning. Finally allowed to cut off. Though it was still not a traditional cut-off as I had to just bring back the surplus at the end of my time, and it is still there now (I'm guessing). Not my problem though.

Bump for this as the issue is rearing it's head in my office again.

Was told to riddle this morning, I refused, saying I would be cutting off. Was told 'you can't' - discussions between managers and rep followed with no conclusion, so I just worked to my time and brought back what I couldn't deliver.

My question - can my rep still get in touch with Bob Gibson on my behalf bgibson@cwu.org and, for the here-and-now, what do I tell my manager when he next asks me to riddle/skim? Do I just take my rep as a witness and bring back what I can't deliver during my duty time?

If you say you cant complete ; then that is fact (as long as you can back that up).. Your Rep is weak on this and your DOM is a complete arse.

Streaming mail is a no no. And you should refuse to do it. If they (Management ) insist ; then still refuse and then ask for a grievance form.

Thanks. We are post-revision and the round I am on allows for 60 minutes of IPS on a Thursday. Today was a heavy day, certainly above the 'model week' and yet I was held back to do 90 minutes, so it is pretty obvious why I couldn't complete. I don't mind doing more indoor work, but it means bringing back outdoor work, when it is busy.

The amusing thing is, when I told him I would be cutting-off, he said 'we aren't allowed to any more' I asked to see that in writing and strangely enough, no document was forthcoming.

I've never heard of this Sh!t. It sounds like managerial wilful delay to me. I'd say it's everyone round the packet bag frames while the rep goes through the ins and outs of it.

I wouldn't go as far as to say the rep was weak but it's been an ongoing issue in that office for some time and really should have been sorted out long before now.
The rep might not be getting enough support from Branch,perhaps that is where the weakness lies but at the end of the day it's an unacceptable position for members to be placed in.

To be fair, my rep is doing a decent job, and is always there when I need some back-up, so fair play to him. The only thing I would say, is perhaps he needs to take things to the next level - if management say to do something that amounts to wilful delay, perhaps get onto the area-rep and see how to take it further. If I get any more hassle, I will just be putting it in writing, co-signed by a witness, that a manager is asking me to riddle, and leave it at that. I can't see what more I can do.

And what about when we start with this world class mail? An office near ours is supposedly going through the change to enable this. If what I hear about the basics of world class mail are true (everything in the office MUST go), then you're back to square one, with no filtering and more delay waiting for mail to be sorted, before you get out on a duty that's already too big.
