Certainly seems to be the case for one address I've been sending stuff to. Three separate items sent to the same address on separate days. Not one received a signature. Either the labels are being removed, or just plain ignored.

Have you put in a claim for this?

Indeed, I've put claims in for all three. I've also got more to post to that address, and just wish that a signature was obtained. It defeats the point when I have to email the recipient to see if he received the mail.

Good to know - let us know the outcome and what RM have to say about it.

If and I highlight the IF - its a lazy postie then repeated complaints will mean a short meeting in the trainers/managers office.

Well, a little update on this. I've yet to hear back from Royal Mail about claiming the money back, but then the claim form says it could take a month. So no issues there.

What has happened though, is that a signature has appeared for one of the three items sent off. Only 20 days after it was posted. The other two have no signatures. I assume that they're being a bit slow scanning the cards onto the computer, but still three weeks is a bit off.

I shipped a couple of items to the same address earlier this week, yet to show if they've been signed for. Only time will tell.

Today I had the response from Royal Mail in the post, alongside a phone call yesterday morning.

I received three letters, one per tracking number. The first one (which a signature showed up in three weeks), has a copy of the signature on the back.

The other two, where no signature has been received yet, came with a free book of stamps each. More than I was expecting, as I was assuming I'd only get the Signed For costs back. Hats off to Royal Mail for providing a decent service for complaints.

The staff I spoke to on the phone believed that the issue was that the Delivery Office was not sending off the forms quickly enough (as they were paper forms, rather than PDA), and as such they weren't able to scan them and update the system. He has made a official complaint with the delivery office, in a hope that they signatures will come through quicker. He believed that the signatures will eventually show up on the system, but the wait should not be over three weeks.

Good to hear of this positive outcome.

I recall reading somewhere that RM aims to issue all postmen and women PDAs by the end of the year which should remove this issue.

Would be terrible if it was a Special Delivery item taking 3 weeks for the signature to upload

I was speaking to the manager of my local delivery office last week as I had to collect an item that I wasn't in to sign for, and he mentioned that in our area they should all be replaced by the end of June. He said the issues with the current PDA's was the battery life, meaning that they couldn't be used on the trolleys, as they would go flat, whereas the vans had chargers.

But they still go flat because the posties are walking the vast majority of their rounds and if they need a signature on a particular loop/bag then its not recharging in the van. I am sorry to say its another case of Royal Mail Nirvana meeting reality, and as with the Higgs Boson Particle search its just as difficult to find a duty that works as planned. :chuckle :chuckle

Had the next claim form returned today, and on a the back a signature was provided, shame it was for a different tracking number! And not only that, but they also stated that the item was delivered on the 15th May. An impressive feat seeing as I only posted it on the 29th May.

You can't argue with time bending service like that - that Dr.Who stamp issue wasn't just about the pictures on the stamps you know. Or did you misread the letter and RM have stated that they aim to deliver it by 15th May 2014?

Sent two more Signed For letters on the 10th, this time from another Post Office, as I was unable to visit the local one. They took the items, and signed / stamped the Posting book alongside printing a receipt for the letters.

Neither of the items are showing signatures, and don't even have the usual "Your letter was delivered on xx, and in most cases the signature will be available in 72 hours". This time they simply say "Item KF174188297GB was posted at Towngate Shoppin BH15 1ER on 10/07/13 and is being progressed through our network for delivery."

I know both items were delivered, as they were cheques which have since been cashed in, and receipts received.

It's odd, seeing how both went to completely different delivery offices.

A client of mine sent me a document 1st class Signed For last week. It was presented in our regular letters bundle and not with our Signed For items. When it landed on my desk I tracked it and it only had the POSTED scan.

I emailed the client to confirm receipt and advised to claim back Signed For fee.

Incidentally, I had to send some important documents to my solicitor last week. Tracking was not essential but proof of delivery (dated) was. Based on experience I still do not feel I can trust Signed For for this purpose, so forked out the significant difference for Special Delivery.

This is a good product but there seems to be some room for improvement in Quality of Service.

And today, checking the numbers again, I just get:

"An error has occurred processing your request - see below for details:
Validation error, please try again. If this error persists, please contact the site administrator."

For both, yet other numbers work. Odd.
