ID needed to collect a 'Recorded Signed For' item?

Post by futch »

Hi

I got a red card through the door for a package that couldn't be delivered 'as a signature is required'. It's addressed to my girlfriend who is away on holidays at the minute and so has all her ID with her. Will I still be able to collect the item from the sorting office if I don't have her ID?

Thinking back I can remember having to show ID for special delivery items, but not recorded signed for. Am I right in thinking this?

Re-delivery isn't an option as I'm never in during the day and by the time she's back from her holidays the item will have been returned to sender.

Will I be able to collect it with just the red card and sign for it?

Thanks in advance

You should be able to collect anything from the Callers office without ID. How long is she on holiday for because it'll be held there for 18 days, you could always ring and ask for it to be held until she returns.
Sorry should of put 'should'nt'.......brain obviously was'nt in gear this morning. :d'oh!

Incorrect.

Read the back of the 739 card again.

ID must be shown, I won't let a single item go without ID that matches the card.

No ID no sale

In fact

cheers, any idea of what I can do then? would I need ID if it was delivered to my local post office instead of collecting from the sorting office? might just have to take the morning off work and get it redelivered. of course she's no idea what it even is but "must be important if its recorded"

You need ID wherever you're collecting it from, the Post Office will ask for the same ID and the red card just as the Delivery Office would do if you went there... except you'd be paying £1.50 to collect it from the Post Office (if they'll accept it as some are so small they have no room for local collect items).

If you have a bank statement with her name and address on or i.e "You must provide the P739 for the item you are collecting. If you do not bring the P739, we will not hand over the item, unless you can provide proof of identity which we deem to be satisfactory e.g. a utility bill, not more than three months old. " for example then you might be OK. Just take as much 'official' stuff with you with her name and address on and see.
