Hope someone could guide me out of this annoying situation.
Basically a SD parcel containing 4 passports (mine, wife's and parents'), which was meant to be delivered to the Home Office, has gone missing last week, and as I was told the case has been escalated to the "ID team" for investigation.
To cut long story short, we're stuck as we got foreign passports and there would be no way of getting replacements ("Syrian" embassy is no longer open in London !).
The incident has been reported to the police and a "subject information request" has been forwarded to UKBA. My brain just gone blank and can't think of anything else that I can do.
In more details, I turned up the other day to send this parcel for our residence permits, and honestly speaking the chap who took the envelope seemed a bit awkward when he knew about the contents of the parcel, The local postoffice manager confirmed the two parcels sent just before and after mine have been both delivered. According to the customer service the parcel was last tracked in local post office and never arrived the sorting office which is less than 1 mile away.
I'm really crossed and do not know what more to expect. Is there any possibility the passports may turn up? Any advice from experts would be highly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Urgent advise please !!
couple of questions for you,
1 has the home office stated to you that they have categorically not received it?
2 What was the price charged printed on the receipt for the item?

Three things
It is probably lost in the sorting office
or
It is probably lost in Home Office (or stuck in backlog piles)
or
It is misdelivered to somewhere else.
Hope it will get sorted soon.

Well there is no signatures as the parcel doesn't seem to have left the local post office or at least this is what's come up when tracking it online. I tried to ring the home office but very useless chap answered my call stating they can't confirm receiving the parcel and pointed me back to RM. I'm not sure how much was I charged would make any difference, but as the parcel exceeded the 500 gr I ended up paying the next SD threshold which was £7.55.

I had a similar issue regarding SD and my wife's Canadian passport. It was reported to the ID docs team who, credit to them, called me back at 9.30 am the following morning having reported the issue around 5.00pm that evening. So they do seem quite proactive.
Has anything else come up on the tracking since you last posted?

Re: Urgent advise please !!
The "ID docs team" rang yesterday saying they couldn't locate the parcel and advised to fill in a lost claim form .. Really very upset how things ended ! I popped in to the local post office and asked for a rewind of the CCTV for the day when the parcel was posted because my gut feeling tells me the chap who dealt with my item might have done something ridiculous with the passports when seeing my mum wearing "hijab" accompanying me that day.

Well it's certainly something weird going on. All SD items travel separately to normal mail and whilst it might not have been scanned at the delivery office (DO) who collected from the PO, it should've been scanned by the mail centre (MC). Even if the MC had so much work on or a system failure, it should've received a scan at the next DO/MC it was sent to.
RM will really need to look into it as there's been a mahoosive failure in this case!
