RECORDED DELIVERY PROBLEM
Advice needed! Please help!
I sent an item Recorded Delivery last week, it has not arrived so I went into the Post Office with my receipt. I spoke to the same person who I posted the item with and he said he needed the reference number which he 'would have given me' . All I got from him was a receipt which I told him and also spoke to a manager but they would not accept this.
I now am going to have to replace this item which I cannot afford and it's not my fault! The guy DEFINATELY only gave me the receipt and no other information. As it's the 1st time I have posted Recorded Delivery I wasn't aware he was supposed to have given me something else otherwiase I would have made sure he did!
I don't know what to do next, I know that he is in the wrong but I can't prove it. I don't know what has happened to my package as apparently can't be traced and I am going to be out of pocket.
Can anyone help??

Re: RECORDED DELIVERY PROBLEM
Yes, because i think u would have needed a ' certificate of posting' also.
Email RM customer services explaining ur problem, i think they can do more than a post office.
May have to wait 3 days for a response tho. x

Re: RECORDED DELIVERY PROBLEM
If you've got the receipt still, the item number will be on it. It looks similar to this layout: AA 1234 5678 9GB. That is the tracking number. We no longer give a separate receipt with the tracking number on it as the barcode is now scanned into the system at source to start the tracking process at the earliest point.

Re: RECORDED DELIVERY PROBLEM
Thanks for your replies everyone.
ZX135 - The postage cost was £3.65
Unhappy gremlin - I can't see any number on the receipt in that format, there is a 'session' number and a FAD one? Both about 6 digits long.
Man from the Post Office - The person paid me for item and postage through Paypal but I went into the Post Office and paid the actual postage with cash.
I did email the Post Office Customer Service Team but will also try Royal Mail, the person who bought the item is now, quite rightly, wanting his money back. I want to give it back to him but am annoyed I am the one who has to be out of pocket :(

Re: RECORDED DELIVERY PROBLEM
Not sure how e-bay is but I use RM online postage for bits and bobs I sell on Amazon. For recorded and special you have to take the package to the PO and have the barcode affixed and scanned there. You then get the receipt with the tracking number.
Maybe the guy at the PO dropped a clanger and didn't process as a recorded, just as a regular large letter/packet? Did they affix an orange barcoded label when posting?

Re: RECORDED DELIVERY PROBLEM
I think harry84 is right. I don't think it has been processed as a recorded. You can, using that receipt, still claim money back, but only when the item is 'officially' lost, which I think is after 15 days. 1st class is insured up to £40/£50 I think. Hopefully, you'll be able to claim and the item isn't too expensive. Good luck.

Re: RECORDED DELIVERY PROBLEM
Yeah I think he did put an orange sticker on it. I just assumed the information was on the receipt, next time I will know I suppose. Yep I will claim from Royal Mail just hope I can without that number?

Re: RECORDED DELIVERY PROBLEM
£3.65 is the price of 1st class packet recorded ... Parcel could only of been sent that way for that price ... Compensation level is £46 (not insurance) .. it looks like he has printed out a final cash Receipt.. the recorded receipt is printed automatically but it looks like he hasn't given you it or you have lost it ...I would contact royal mail as you have see if they will allow the claim as you have a cash receipt. I doubt they will allow a claim without it .. if they won't contact po customer services and see what they can do ... They are both on Twitter and facebook for a faster responce ... Fingers crossed for you ! Let us know how you get on .....trust this to happen on your first time :( good luck

Re: RECORDED DELIVERY PROBLEM
Hi, first time user of any forum. Vodafone sent me a returns bag for me to return a new ipad. I placed the item in the bag and posted it from the post office. I assume I received a reciept. Four weeks later I'm told by Vodafone they haven't received it. I can't find any reciept, could the post office help? I know the day and what post office I sent it from. I guess there must be some sort of code on the bag. Cheers. Paul.

What service was used? Is there a tracking number on receipt? For that value of item I'd expect Special Delivery to be honest?Pauldpatterson wrote:Hi, first time user of any forum. Re: RECORDED DELIVERY PROBLEM
My wife took it, Vodafone said place item in return bag and take it to the post office. They seemed to know what to do, no charge of any sort. Bag had address and bar code ( we think ). A simple procedure but she is sure some reciept was given. But after four weeks its lost.

Re: RECORDED DELIVERY PROBLEM
If I ever send out a Signed For or Special Delivery bag for someone to return an item in, I will always record the tracking number before sending it. Vodafone may have done this, if so ask to see if they have the tracking number. Without the receipt then it is very hard to find the tracking number, if not impossible.

Re: RECORDED DELIVERY PROBLEM
Many thanks, ill ring Vodafone and ask. They sent the bag to me so it makes sense to record the information. I have spoken several times to,them today and they never offered any possible solution except either find the reciept or go to the post office and see if they remember. Cheers.
