The tracking is updated in this state:
A delivery was attempted for your item with reference RJxxxxxxxGB in NATIONAL RETURN CENTRE before 13:18 on 05/03/13.
If redelivery or collection is unsuccessful, the item will be returned to the UK
What does this mean?

It's been sent to RLB to be opened to find a return address to return it to sender.

I phoned the Italian post office and they checked, the package never arrived in Italy!
Let me know what error has prevented from receiving my package, formulate a hypothesis you can?

Depends what was in the package as stated on the customs declaration-could've been a restricted item for example, the outgoing address might've been an issue i.e. it had perhaps become damaged and no long legible and therefore not able to be sent on...

The sender needs to call Royal Mail Customer Services, quoting the tracking number. They can then provide a returns address for that package so RLB can return to them.

If you are the intended recipient, I'd strongly advise contacting the sender/seller for redress.

The history of the tracking is actually very poor from February 18 to March 4, the state was ready to be shipped, as of yesterday it has changed in what I wrote above.
Thanks for your help, now I will contact the sender.
