Re: Lost post
Well these items have not turned up for any customers and none have been returned to me so have no idea what on earth is going on. I now have an item not arrived that was sent on the 15th first class, this is a regular customer. I am getting quite worried. What will christmas be like!!!! This is going to take an awful lot of time to complete everything for the claims let alone the stress of the loss in profit which is very damaging for us when times are difficult enough and money tight. I really hope this is not the shape of things to come. Very down and worried. Most customers just will not pay for the extra recorded bit due to pricing and we cannot afford to cover this on every item we send out as we need to stay competitive. We check addresses before sending and our return address is on all packages all sealed tightly therefore have no idea what more we can do. I know royal mail is a massive company but this could have serious consequences on our business should this carry on. I am a full supporter of royal mail and appreciate how hard everyone works but have never come across this situation before. Sorry just very worried.

Re: Lost post
hiya, i felt i must comment about my HORRIFIC experience with online bulk mail, over the space of a year i had no less than 5 sacks of mail go missing, the reason i know this is we used to send 40 items at a time in the sacks and around the time a sack went missing we had a massive spike in item not received reports, we used to send 2 or 3 sacks a day so the overall percentage was low but at approximately £400 a time loss and negative feedback/low dsrs on ebay its simply not acceptable.
upon contacting royal mail numerous times and getting very angry with those on the other end of the phone i decided to go back to posting at the post office, £400 loss every other month is not worth the extra £10 a month you save from using the service, if you guys are not aware royal mail add 20% vat to invoices, so they may like me be giving you a 25% discouunt but adding 20% vat so your only saving 5%, and when royal mail go and LOSE sacks of mail you are left well and truly out of pocket, at least if my local parcel loses a parcel it is only one parcel, im already seeing the benefits of using the local postal service.
if a sack of standard mail is lost you have absolutely 0 chance of getting your money back as they want evidence, i could print off 30 customer complaints in the space of 3 days however royal mail would not consider this as evidence, since my experience of oba royal mail i would not advise my worts enemy to use the service, useless, collection service where the collection man turns up half an hour early sometimes and says he cannot come back, brilliant! £750 to have an irregular collection.
stick to the local post offices especially if selling on ebay, it may be a lot more hastle with shipping individually but in the long run its not going to severely damage your business like it did mine, ebay customers are not forgiving or patient at all as they know they have you over a barrel with feedback.
that is my 2 pence worth on the royal mail oba SCANDAL

Re: Lost post
This is a nightmare!! I run an online business. I post items out and buy items in. In December 2012 I ordered some costume jewellery from an ebayer whom I deal with very often. It didn't arrive. She sent me the receipt but I was told I had to wait for 21 days before I could even chase it up - this was 21 days after posting so it mean't a 42 day wait - it still hasn't arrived. I collect ornamental vases etc. I ordered one off ebay in December - it still hasn't arrived. I contacted the seller who confirmed that he had sent it and said he too was waiting for an item. I ordered some hoover bags in December - still not arrived. I contacted the company in January who confirmed postage. As a new business I discovered that my partner required a unique tax reference number to complete her tax return. This also meant that I couldnt fill in a partnership return either. HMRC posted this out to me on 30/01/2012 - it didn't arrive. I spoke to them today and they have confirmed the post date. This will cost me a fortune in fines. I have tried to contact the post office on many occasions. The customer service number just results in around 30 minutes of going round in circles only to end up where I started. I have phoned my local delivery office many times only to get an answer machine. I leave my number every time but no one calls back. Wherever possible I now use couriers and advise my clients to do the same.

For an online retailer you aren't very clued up are you?ShabbyToChic wrote: In December 2012 I ordered some costume jewellery from an ebayer whom I deal with very often. It didn't arrive. She sent me the receipt but I was told I had to wait for 21 days before I could even chase it up
It's the sellers responsibility to get the item to the buyer. You should have insisted that the seller refund you in full. It's not your job to chase it up.

Re: Lost post
If it's been reported and there seems to be nothing happening then it could be because they've had several complaints and it's been passed on to IB to investigate, I don't know for sure but it could be a reason.
