Parcel stuck at Heathrow Langley HWDC

Hello, I have a question too re my parcel which is stuck at Langley. I hope this is the right place to ask.
Today I received one of those grey coloured cards saying I had to pay a customs charge of £253 before my item could be released for delivery . Now , the thing is I spoke to HMRC and they said that Langley had possibly misread the declaration label . My item ( an eyelash curler of all things - cost £14) was declared as a value of 2000 yen.. but someone has calculated the customs charge on the value of 2000 us-dollars. It's plastic - not gold
How can i sort this out ? Is there someone I can contact at Langley?
HMRC say in their experience I will have to wait for the item to be returned to sender and then get the sender to send it again with another declaration label clearly stating the value. any suggestions welcome though.

They are correct IMO, if the stated value on the declaration is $2000 then it will be charged at that so it will have to be returned and then sent again with the correct value.

ok, TeeferTiger, point taken, but the question still stands - does anybody know if anything changed in RM policies concerning the admittance/delivery of foreign parcels in 2013.?

No a quick check of the customers section would indicate that even RMC is in the dark about what's going on in HWDC. Perhaps a question to your MP might elicit a response from official quarters.

Just a thought - could the new regs on Dangerous Goods (from 14.01.2013) be slowing things down across the board? Know it's about outbound mail but could adaptation to new rules be causing delays to outbound which is in turn having a knock on effect?

could be, but I've sent three parcels at the same time to UK - two reached their destinations, third one disappeared

I've had an item at Langley since the 16th of January. It was a valentines day present for my wife!

I'd be interested to know if anyone has received their parcels and how long they took to arrive.

I am currently waiting for my parcel from Lithuania. Royal Mail tracking system says it was received in UK at Heathrow Worldwide DC at 14/01/2013. The item is send as International signed for and was insured in Lithuania's post for about 100 pounds worth. I am not sure whether I should wait longer in case my parcel is stuck in the customs or begin all the hassle with the compensation for lost item. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

It really depends on what the poster wants to do, he has the contract and so he is responsible for it (along with Lithuania post), whatever they say is what will go.

But, you may need to wait a bit longer to wait and see if it comes through after being held up.

It depends on how quickly customs take to clear it

Looking through the multitude of other posts about Langley HWDC, you could be waiting anything up to about 8 weeks before it gets to you. Hopefully it won't be that long. But if it's not there within the time the sender specified then tell them and get them to sort it.

Customs, large amounts of incoming and outgoing items, changes to rules and regulations...

As I said, it could take up to 8 weeks, doesn't mean it will. Asking where it is after a couple of working days is a bit premature tbh.
