The two reps we had were sycophants to management..we have just had a branch election and got rid of one of them(wished it was both but hey ho!)the new one should be okay as he was a big gob..but I wouldn't be surprised if he squeaks under the chair or tows the CWU line soon...we should have voted for this guy who won a tribunal.http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 18&t=50879 :Applause :Applause

Our is good and does his best but its not easy when people dont back him up. :no no

For those leaving comments like "useless" and " doms best mate" should perhaps have a go themselves. Its a thankless job and not easy.

It would also be interesting for them to explain how the rep does his job without having an ongoing dialogue with the manager.

Our rep is a ............total throbber. Just a puppet for the area rep who seems to get fatter everytime he slithers/wobbles into the DO.

I wouldnt matter if we had a good rep anyway as half the office come in early, most work through/dont take their break, and quite a few spend half their day sucking up to the managers. and dont get me started on the managers "golden boys" who are too busy to take their absorbtion but always get back to the DO before their time.

That is the problem in a nutshell. :arrrghhh

What chance does he have when the Dom knows that people wont back him. :d'oh!

You can never win as a rep.

Too many people come in early and run around then cry when they are told to do more.

If people did the job by the book we would have rm by the balls.

To answer the question I'm a c*** apparently :Very Happy

But 99% of people wouldn't try the job and if it came to a walkout or strike there would be me and a handful on the gate :cuppa

Try my best though but that's not always enough. :wave

Tough balancing act IMHO

It's one of those chicken/egg scenarios though krussel.
Which came first, the lousy rep or the lousy office?
To be honest though IF the rep is crap he has no place being the rep and what's left of a decent office should get rid of him....otherwise they would be as well cancelling their subs....and that's the end state in offices like this...no members.

When HQ is perceived to be useless and let's face it rightly or wrongly that is the general perception the only thing holding representation up at local level is the local rep.
It's a big responsibility,if you're not up to it or don't want that responsibility you need to have a look in the mirror.

Our rep does a good job. In all honesty he is fighting a losing battle, as apart from a few of us, it is a WEAK office, which he could never change. People have a perception that he is too friendly with the DOM, but as mentioned, if you have to have a dialogue with the manager anyway, it is tough to carry that out if you don't speak to him!

Should never have a joint office with the DOM though. That is the one critical mistake he has made. Apart from that, he has always helped me out, so fair play.
