Special Delivery - freaking out a bit

Post by harry84 »

Hi there

Came across this site and was wondering if anyone in the know could help?

We are expecting a Royal Mail Special Delivery item today. It has been tracked as follows:

Date Time Status Track point
17/01/13 08:36 ON DELIVERY CENTRAL MANCHESTER PDO

There is no information beyond this point. I have spoken to RM Customer Services who have launched an investigation with their Identity Docs team (it is a new passport from the Canadian High Commission in London).

Is there anything else I can do? Would it be worth going to my local delivery office in person this evening? I am just a bit nervous as there are very valuable documents in this envelope!

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers

Yes, hope you're in Manchester and that Manchester Central is your local DO?! I'd suggest trying to phone the DO if you've got the number, and only go down there if someone is staying at home to sign just in case it turns up.

Thanks - yes we are in Manchester :) Central Manchester in fact - it's that Delivery Office but when we collect we have to go to the Manchester Mail Centre where there is a callers office.

Am going to swing by there in the morning to see if anything is being held there. Otherwise I'll wait and see what the investigation throws up.

Thanks again for the help.

UPDATE - Panic over!!!

Went to Delivery Office with a print out of the tracking so far. Guy managed to locate and I have now signed for and received the item. Phew!

I don't really have any clue what happened yesterday. Interestingly I have retracked the item since I picked it up and it now says the following:

18/01/13 08:22 COLLECTED FROM18/01/13 MANCHESTER MAIL CENTRE
17/01/13 11:04 DELIVERED17/01/13 CENTRAL MANCHESTER PDO
17/01/13 08:36 ON DELIVERY CENTRAL MANCHESTER PDO
17/01/13 04:30 RECEIVED AT PDOCENTRAL MANCHESTER PDO CENTRAL MANCHESTER PDO
17/01/13 03:47 RECEIVED ATMANCHESTER MAIL CENTRE MANCHESTER MAIL CENTRE
17/01/13 03:43 DESPATCHABLE TOCENTRAL MANCHESTER PDO MANCHESTER MAIL CENTRE
16/01/13 21:07 DESPATCHABLE TOMANCHESTER MAIL CENTRE LONDON CENTRAL MAIL CENTR
16/01/13 20:07 COLLECTED LONDON CENTRAL

The collection scan from this morning is quite accurate. Not sure however where yesterday's 'Delivered' scan came from as this is definitely not true.

Still...all's well that ends well though...

They've probably selected the wrong option on the PDA, but it doesn't explain why no card was left etc. Also doesn't explain why it wasn't scanned back into the office as it should've been...

Glad it's appeared though.

Thanks for all your help TeeferTiger - much appreciated :)

I am now much more relaxed than I was 24 hours ago as the prospect of losing the documents in question was not a happy one!

It has to be said that once could argue that the aftercare with Special Delivery leaves a little to be desired. When I raised the investigation yesterday, I was told it would take 48 hours for someone to come back to me. For a service that is marketed as Express and designed for the carriage of valuable items, this seems a relatively lengthy time. Indeed, last night was rather sleepless!

I guess Special is great when it works though, which I gather is the vast majority of the time.
