I posted a letter yesterday to a friend who required the contents of the letter for Monday but i wanted to guarantee that she would have it so I paid for Special Delivery. I have tracked it all day and it was eventually signed for at 11:10am. I rang my friend after work and asked her if the contents were correct for what she needed and she said she had not got it. I contacted Royal Mail Customer Services and was informed that it had indeed been signed for. I got them to send me the POD and when i looked at the signature it was a completely different name to the person i was sending it to. My friend lives alone and had no visitors this morning. She has asked around her neighbors and none of them have got the letter.
Please could someone tell me where i stand with getting my money back and compensation as i now have to re-write the statement in the letter and i will have to drive to her house to deliver it as she needs it for a court appearance on Monday.
Hoping someone can help me.
Rebecca

Re: SPECIAL DELIVERY SIGNED FOR BY INCORRECT PERSON
Special delivery doesn't have to be signed for by the person names on the parcel/letter. However, it must go to that address ... If you are sure no one was at this address at this time you should contact royal mail again and they will give you all the information needed ... If no one was in at the address then the parcel should of been taken to the nearest sorting office ... Contact royal mail on the number on the bottom of your proof of posting quoting your barcode number

Re: SPECIAL DELIVERY SIGNED FOR BY INCORRECT PERSON
If it was sent to her work address, it will be signed for by whoever signs for the mail at that address. We don't knock on doors and refuse to hand the item over unless the person named signs for it, it gets signed for by whoever answers the door at that address.
