letter delivery problem

Post by toaster »

I posted a letter 1st class recorded to an address and person in London with a london postcode. It was a PO box number. It had personal information enclosed. My letter has been delivered and signed for by a person 200 miles away from its original address.Royal mail know this and say they cannot tell me where its gone or to which person its gone to(they do have these details).I would have thought that royal mail was under contract with me when the PO accepted my letter and payment, and,as long as the address i sent it to was correct which it was.Now i don't know where its gone to or who its gone to and i was the payer of the service.

Just to be certain you are aware - we do have this on every page of the site:

We no affiliation with either Royal Mail or the Communications Workers Union (CWU), except that most of our members work for Royal Mail and/or are members of the CWU.

Bearing that in mind what advice are you looking for, we'd love to help but if would be unofficial and we may not indeed be able to help anyway.

Couple of points for you, has the person or company you were sending the letter to stated to you that they have not actually received the letter?

also just because it was sent to a PO Box in London the PO Box owner may have a redirection or diversion in force and thus it has been forwarded on to a location outside London

Royal Mail may not hold the address details of where its gone to, if it was recorded delivery we just record the signature of the person signing for it at the address on the letter we do not store the addresses that recorded delivery or a lot of other items are going to, on your receipt from the post office it should detail the street number and post code of where it was sent to, no other information is held by royal mail (if there was a redirection or diversion in place then yes they will know where the diversion is going to but they will not let you know that address for data protection reasons)
