I don't know how true this is, but I have been told by my DOM that Royal mail are paying for the work needed to transfer our closed PO's into W H Smith's shops and that one of our board members is a bigwig in said company. Also the only other company to change their pension for current employees to such a degree is Rentokill and you've guessed it one of their bigwigs is on our board too

WH Smith have just appointed a new chief Exec.
MP71, your general point though is a reasonable one to make. Ideas from the non-execs. are surely going to influence how the company is run, and the direction it takes, and that is why they sit on the board.
Now, you, I and others may disagree with their ideas, but we shouldn't be surprised.
What would be wrong is a conflict of interest and I doubt that the move of PO's ito WH Smith would go down well if it was found out that he was to financially benefit from such dealings.
However, there has been a history of 'friends' of these people seemingly buying shares at rather important times, M&S springs to mind for example

I haven't heard that... but then again, I know a lot of people in RM at high positions hire people they already know from working elsewhere and the 'deal is done' before the official process of appointment begins. On the basis of what I have heard.
