RECORDED DELIVERY LETTER LOST! PLEASE ADVISE.

Post by SM Black »

PLEASE HELP!
Can anyone shed any light on how a correctly addressed 1st Class Recorded A4 large letter can vanish into thin air without a trace?
We posted it from Sittingbourne on the 20th October and it hasn't reached its destination in Tunbridge Wells. I've made enquiries wherever I can and just draw a blank.
The contents (financial documents) are of no value to anyone, but to replace them, we have since learned, will cost us a fortune. We're desperate, please help.

Does anyone think there is still any chance of it turning up?
Thanks.

A recorder Delivery letter has the same chance of getting lost as any other letter. It is treated no differently other than a signature is requested at delivery.

Has an attempt at delivery been made? It may have been scanned if a 'Sorry you were out' card was left.

this might sound like a bit of silly question, but has the recipient actually told you they have definitely not received it?

Hi, thanks for your replies. There has apparently been no attempt at delivery and certainly no card left - I have checked with the mail room manager at the business address, and he has checked his records more than once. I have phoned businesses with the same postcode nearby, and they all say that if it had been delivered by mistake they would have handed it back to the Postie.

I know an obvious thing, but have you traced the recorded delivery on the Royal Mail website ?
http://track2.royalmail.com/portal/rm/t ... gear=track" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Just copy the number of the item into the box and see what it comes back with :hmmmm

I don't think DOs scan a recorded item until an attempt has been made to deliver the item

............. but then you would know that it at least got to the delivery office ....... once.
That would narrow the search down :neutral:

Hi, there is no record of it on track and trace - except that it was taken at Sittingbourne when we handed it over. The delivery offices do not scan until an attempt has been made to deliver the item. So no trace there either. Spoken to two managers at DO's and they are pretty sure the item is not/has not been there. I'm at a total loss. Out of my mind with worry, but coming round to the idea that it's unlikely to surface now.

Well it seems that your only port of call now is customer service
http://www.royalmail.com/customer-service" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
give them all the information that you've got and see what they come up with. But i have to agree with you, it don't look too promising :sad:

RM would consider it a lost item after 15 working days so all you can do is get a P58 form (can get them from the PO) and send it off with proof of postage to the freepost address in Plymouth (customer services).
Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?
