Something strange that happened with a delivery.

Post by Pinkman »

I ordered a parcel from Amazon Marketplace last week. It was dispatched on the 26th from a UK warehouse. The seller's feedback all states how the parcel arrived in a couple of days so I assume their claims of being from a UK warehouse are legitimate.

Anyway, on the 29th I wasn't working in the morning so I slept in. I woke up at about 11 to hear a car pull up, so thinking it was my parcel I ran downstairs. I watched out of the window to see a guy in his own silver car with a parcel that looked like an Amazon one. He got out, looked at my house, looked at the parcel and then got back in his car and drove off. He didn't see me, and he had a red Royal Mail looking bag on the passenger seat of his car that he put the parcel back in to when he sat down. He wasn't dressed in any uniform. I'd have noted down the car's registration but I wasn't thinking straight and was just wondering what the guy was doing. I saw his face at the time but I don't have the foggiest idea what he looked like now.

My parcel has yet to arrive and it's pretty weird since this particular seller has a very good track record. The delivery estimate is between the 30th and the 12th, which is just Amazon's ridiculous estimates that they make you enforce so you're covered if the parcel is a bit late so they can't take any flack off you. The problem is it means I might have to wait two weeks before I can complain if the guy actually stole the parcel. In honesty I have no idea what could have happened or even if it was my parcel but the whole thing just seemed a bit dodgy.

I actually ordered something else off Amazon market place that day and it came two days after.

I was just wondering if anyone in the business has any idea what could have happened and what that guy was doing. Surely he can't have gotten the complete wrong address. I read something about some postmen using their own cars and some royal mail employees don't approve of this. Also, I've never done this but if I ring the post office can they confirm whether a package was sent out to me? I'm also thinking that if he wanted to have my package then he probably wouldn't wait until he was right at my house unless he saw something on it there and then that made him think he could get away with it.

Any help that you could give me would be great. Or just tell me if I'm being ridiculous :Very Happy

Thanks guys.

(edit: I'm in the Wigan area if that helps. Maybe someone has heard of some strange goings on.)

It is very unlikely that it was a Royal Mail employee.
Although some employees do use their own cars in the majority of cases this is only as conveyance to their first delivery point.
It would be very unusual, although not impossible for a member of staff to deliver parcels from their car as this is a security breach, not covered by insurance and a possible gross misconduct offence.
Amazon do use other couriers some of which do use their own vehicles,my advice would be to contact the sender and find out exactly who they used.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

It could be HDNL (Home delivery Network Ltd) - In my area they deliver Amazon and operate out of cars as well. The order page on the Amazon site should have the Delivery Company (and any tracking) on it somewhere.
